Keeping The Culture Alive, Ssumier Pasricha Performs Kuchipudi

Television actor, theater artist & a comedian who created the funny fictional character Pammi Aunty revives one of the eleven major Indian classical dance, Kuchipudi  & performed at the prestigious gathering to commemorate roots of dancing by performing alongside some of our greatest performers who have put Indian classical dance on the world map.  Ssumier returned to Kuchipudi after having been away from dance for 15 years.  Attendees at Ssumier's performance included Amrita Rao, Jayati Bhatia, Master Geeta Kapoor, Chef Ripu Daman Hands and many more foreign delegates.  Ssumier mesmerized everyone with Tarangam, a dance on the rim of a brass plate.  The actor who believes he's a dancer at heart first confesses to being drawn towards it from an early age on, 'When I was about 7, my sister would train in Kathak. I would often find myself in the same room tapping my foot in the corner. That's where it all began. Kuchipudi is beyond dancing for me, it has made me one with lord & overcome my inhibitions.' A dance form technically dominated by women, Ssumier religiously practices Kuchipudi & aims to perform & promote the dance form at cultural festivals across the globe, 'It's an honor to perform alongside Birju Maharaj, Deepak Majumdar. Getting in my costume & make-up felt surreal. India has very few men performing Kuchipudi, I wish to religiously continue my training & learn this art form further & may be one day be known for dance & inspire other men to join classical dancing & keep our culture alive.'
