Movie Review: Article 15
Producer/ Director- Anubhav Sinha
Star Cast- Ayushmann Khurrana, Isha Talwar, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Nasser, Sayani Gupta and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub
A MUST SEE FILM ABOUT CASTE RIDDEN SOCIETY!
The film deals with an inflammable and serious issue –that of how though the constitution was adapted on January 1950 in India, it is sad that still casteism is a burning issue present in 70% of the villages in the country .The film begins with the posting of a young IPS officer in rural India and it necessitates him to come in confrontation with grave caste disparities and uncomfortable truths in the face of a gruesome crime.
Three young girls go missing in the village of Lalgaon, two of them are found dead and there is no trace of the third one. The officer Ayan Ranjan (Ayushmann Khurrana) is appalled to discover where the missing girl is and who is responsible for this heinous act and loses no time to track down the culprit but then he realizes that the system is hand in hand with the perpetrators of the crime
As the police officer in command, Ayan is committed to getting to the bottom of this, refusing to buckle down despite obstacles and threats lurking in almost every corner. Ayushmann Khurrana lives his role to the T and gets into the skin of his character with effortless ease while Isha Talwar who plays his wife does not have enough scope to prove her mettle as an actress.
Anubhav Sinha has come a long way from his days of yore when he used to direct mainstream films like Tum Bin and Cash and Dus. With Article 15, like in his earlier film Mulk he has come a full circle and needs thumbs up. While Manoj Pahwa glides through his out of the box character and succeeds to elicit applause for the way in which he acts as the cynical villain, Kumud Mishra who as usual springs a pleasant surprise with his natural flair for acting. Sayani Gupta is natural. Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub has been wasted as Nishad in a role of inconsequence.
To sum up, Article 15 is like a breath of fresh air and hits you like a hurricane with it’s out of the box and serious subject which will make you think. Three cheers to Anubhav Sinha. I wish it works at the box office because it is a pity that besides the fact that it boasts of a serious subject, it has to withstand the stiff opposition from Kabir Singh too
