A One Time Watch to drive away your blues

Jyothi Venkatesh

Though it does remind you of the sweet love stories churned out by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in the 70’s and 80’s, Fastey Fasaatey which is set in the backdrop of a traditional family, is a quirky and funny film, based on the lives of three modern-day youngsters Aakash( Arpit Chaudhary), Anisha (Karishma Sharma), and Dev (Nachiket Narvekar), who get caught in the traditional family web when Aakash`s extremely traditional and orthodox parents start forcing him to get married, especially since the family astrologer has warned them that if the marriage does not take place in the family, one of the members in the house will die, not in the first place realizing that Akash is already living with a girl of his choice in another city where he is working.

Aakash tries to buy time from his family to set his love life in order with a free-spirited as well as sexually liberated partner Anisha, who has her own pursuits in life and has no plans of getting married anytime soon. What follows is how Aakash walks the thin line with the help of his friend Dev and saves the day, in the process letting the audience go through a lot of bizarre sequences and spoofs.

The story is predictable and though the director tries his level best to control the happenings, unfortunately the screen play goers away at times and the pace gets hit. At times the logic hits the bottom and the film seems too forced to digest but performances by Arpit Chaudhary, Karishma Sharma and Nachiket Narvekar, who happens to be the son of the veteran filmmaker N Chandra, who have made their debuts with this film, save it from hitting rock bottom. Though for a first time director, the director has piloted the film in a linear style, he is handicapped with his own writing as situations appear unnecessarily convoluted and the nature of the plot makes the going even more difficult to endure.

To sum up, the film is a onetime watch to drive away your blues.
