Movie Review Manmarziyaan
Producers- Vikas Bahl, Madhu Mantena, Vikramaditya Motwane and Anand.L Rai
Director- Anurag Kashyap
Star Cast- Abhihsek Bachchan, Tapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal
Unconventional but layered!
What makes the film set in Amritsar, a modern take off on marital life and discord a la Woh Saat Din or Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, an interesting watch is the fact that it is for the very first time that Anurag Kashyap who is prone to making dark and hard-hitting films with double entendre dialogues has made an attempt to experiment with a genre of hardcore romance.
The film is about Vicky Sandhu (Vicky Kaushal) who plays the role of a crazy music composer waiting for his first break. Vicky loves Roomi (Taapsee Pannu), a bindaas modern girl who is in high libido who gives him an ultimatum to bring his parents to her house in order to step up their relationship, when Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan), a banker based in London visits India to look out for a bride. What happens when he later finds that his wife is in love with another man, even after marrying him forms the crux of this subject.
While Amit Trivedi’s music elevates the emotions in the film to a large degree, Anurag Kashyap introduces a new sense of realism in its characters, which refreshingly are not completely black and white, but have shades of subtlety and grey. Abhishek Bachchan underplays his role and gives a very subtle performance. Vicky Kaushal adapts every mannerism of his character to the hilt with perfection, while this is Taapsee Pannu’s best role till date!
Though it is unconventional and illogical at times, Manmarziyaan is a layered love story that brings out the many shades of romance and relationships.
