Shoddy & Tacky!

Jyothi Venkatesh

It is supposed to be a film based on the life and thoughts of the greatest revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad, giving insights about life and times of greatest revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad and how his thoughts were like the flames of fire and acts were deadly blasts, but the end result is nothing but a shoddy as well as tacky execution on the part of makers who claim to be the legal heirs to the legendary institution Bombay Talkies. The film claims to spread the thoughts and philosophy of the forgotten hero, but frankly it is just another typical clichéd film which makes an attempt, a feeble one at that to project the producer as a swashbuckling hero.

The film sets out with its own noble intentions to brush upon the glaring and gnawing issue of the youth being consumed by drugs and also highlights the conflict over territorial power amongst drug cartels. Aazaad needs to hone his acting, writing and direction skills, besides of course his atrocious dialogue delivery.

Zakir Hussain and Manish Chaudhary have acted well, but there isn’t much for them to explore or even improvise. Ruhi Singh, who had made her debut with Madhur Bhandarkar’s Calendar Girls two years ago, looks pretty but isn’t required to be more than just a prop in the film. As for the rest, whether it is Manish Chaudhary or Viveck Vaswani or for that matter Raza Murad or Achint Kaur, you only pity why the hell they agreed to make such fools of themselves.

The less said about the music the better as the songs serve no purpose at all. The plot plods along almost to the point of boring you to death and is far too disjointed on the whole, with scenes jutting from one to another without any logic at all and on top of it, the heroine is shown to be killed in an accident for no reason or rhyme whatsoever and conveniently another girl is introduced as the romantic interest of the hero.
