Singer Ronit Vohra, who will soon be launching a single, says that it is very important to him. Talking about it, he says, “The single that I am releasing is very close to my heart. It is the first Punjabi song that I have written. The lyrics and the composition are beautiful and I think everyone will connect to it. It’s a soulful love song. The line of the song is Jaane Na Tu, Mai Tenu Kitnnna Chauniyaan Ve"”

Talking about how he got into singing, he says, “I was born in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. I did my schooling there and went to Delhi post that to do architecture. As far as singing was concerned, I used to sit with my aunt during her riyaaz lessons and I used to enjoy it. That was the first time I got to know that I like singing. I was very active in school and college singing competitions and won a lot of them.”

He adds, “During my college days, it was really hard for me to manage architecture and singing together. I have had endless sleepless nights working but the passion for singing kept me going. I also used to sing at local market places in Delhi for free. Sometimes, I got a lot of attention and sometimes I was scolded by the cops. I belong to a middle-class family and I have a dream to fulfil everything my family wants. I started playing guitar at the age of 6. My parents got me music books and I learned it from there. I can play the keyboard, drums, harmonium, Jembe etc.”

Soon, Ronit started singing regularly at parties. “I came to Bombay on the 5th of July 2015 to work as an architect intern and also to do something in music. I didn’t know how I would get a job in Bombay.  On the 9th of July, they took me to a restaurant named Sirocco. I was carrying my guitar and I loved that place. I requested the owner if I could sing for 10 minutes here. He refused initially but later he allowed me to do so. I started singing without the mic and I ended up doing a 1.5-hour session. The response from the people there was overwhelming. The owner asked me, ‘Will you perform here regularly?’ That made me really happy but I still didn’t have a job in Bombay which was at utmost priority. I kept on giving interviews and finally got a job as an intern after a few weeks. I shifted to Sion, in a PG, after months as my office was in Lower Parel. I did my first official performance at Sirocco on 28th Oct 2015. I did the first few performances for free. But later they started paying me a little. Later, I got a call from a restaurant in Pune and I started going there every week to perform and I used to come back the same day as I had office the next day. Eventually, people started knowing me and live music started picking up in Mumbai. I started getting small private parties where they would call me to perform,” he says.
