Lackluster Outing!

Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake's experiments, Eddie's body merges with the alien Venom -- leaving him with extra superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.

For the uninitiated, Venom is the famous Spider-Man villain, the webbed superhero’s arch nemesis who appeared in many comic book issues and even in Sam Raimi’s 2007 film Spider-Man 3. Ruben Fleischer decides to go for the origin story here – showing us how a “loser”, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), gets “infected” by the alien and turns into his alter ego Venom, the anti-hero. Eddie lends Venom a sense of right and wrong and together they go after the alien organisms that want to annihilate our world.

Sony’s Spider-Man may be hanging out with the Avengers in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that hasn’t stopped the studio from creating its own spin-off franchise. The film has the knack of making you sit glued to the edge of your seat with a thrilling bike chase through San Fran’s zigzag roads, much more enjoyable than the overwrought CGI battle between Venom and Drake’s symbiote Riot. There’s also an insipid love track between Eddie and his estranged fiancée Anne (Michelle Williams), who’s utterly wasted in the role.

Venom, released in English, Hindi and also Tamil, didn't need his own solo movie, as he'd have fared much better as a villain in a Tom Holland Spider-Man movie, just as the comics intended. To sum up, all that I can say is that this one is a forgettable lackluster outing.
