The film is based on a Gujarati play written by Saumya Joshi. 102 Not Out is a movie that you can go and watch with your family. The movie revolves around three characters and does not hold any dull or boring moment even when it has zero dance numbers and no female lead. The story revolves around father and son relationship. Father Dattatraya Vakharia (Amitabh Bachchan) is a 102-year old man who wants to break the record of the oldest living male. He also wishes to hold another record of being the only father who sends his own son to old age home. In the quest to avoid going to old age home, son Babulaal (Rishi Kapoor) who is 75 years old decides to follow all the 'sharts' offered by his father and there the story builds unfolding other aspects and stories of this father-and-son duo. The movie runs around three characters, Dattatraya, Babulaal and Dheeru (Jimit Trivedi). Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor play the pivotal role in the movie. Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor being ace actors have nailed it and absorbed their characters brilliantly. Both play the role of an old man, yet there is variation in their performance according to the demand of the character. On one hand, Amitabh plays the role of a cool old man, Rishi, on the other hand, is a rigid old school, old man. Jimit Trivedi has an important role as a supporting cast. His dialogue delivery and body language smell of a true Gujarati. His dialogues show his curiosity thus helping in the development of the story. The cinematography is great. Caricature format is used to depict the childlike approach of Amitabh Bachchan to teach Rishi Kapoor life lessons and how to loosen up while living your life in your 70s. The cartoon caricatures will remind you of R.K. Narayan's Malgudi Days! Life lessons are taught in a simple, fun and honest manner. Vijay Raaz's voice over is used in a playful manner to add more humour to the story. With all the "sharts", the story is depicted and weaved beautifully. Dialogues are fun and laughable. Songs and background score is interestingly blending in the theme of the film. Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Jimit Trivedi are the whole and sole of the movie. The movie revolves around Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor and is yet brilliantly engaging. Director Umesh Shukla has made a slice of life film focusing on a phase of life that is majorly neglected or never brought on cinema as the pivotal theme. All and all, this movie is 3.5/5 stars for me. For more Bollywood updates, follow Bollyy!
