Acting is not as easy as it looks. Actors don’t have 9-5 jobs; they have to work late nights that stretch into days and to truly get into character, they require major commitment towards their roles. The most important part of acting probably is looking like the character you’re playing—and here in Indian cinema, there is no dearth of actors who have undergone massive transformations to look the part. We bring you a list of 11.

1. Rajkumar Rao

The award-winning actor is known for his body transformations. He gained lean muscle and became fit for his role in Behen Hogi Teri and then went all out for Trapped by staying on a diet of two carrots and a cup of black coffee a day for more than 20 days, thereby losing a considerable amount of weight. Now for Hansal Mehta’s upcoming web series, the actor has gained a whopping 11 kg for his role.

2. Aamir Khan

Mr Perfectionist gained a massive 30 km for portraying the older version of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and then lost it within a short span of time to essay the younger version. This is not the first time that Aamir has been seen transforming for a film. He did it for Ghajini, Taare Zameen Par and even PK.

3. Hritik Roshan

The Greek God of Bollywood gave up his eight pack and biceps and gained 15 kilograms for playing the role of a paraplegic magician in Guzaarish. The film may have tanked at the box office, but the effort put in by Roshan was clearly visible.

4. Farhan Akhtar

Farhan Akhtar’s role in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag required him to lose a lot of body fat and gain lean muscle. The actor worked on his physique for over a year and achieved the bod he had without the use of steroids or artificial supplements. Now that is what you call dedication.

5. Randeep Hooda

The film industry’s chocolate boy, who is known for having created a unique space for himself, shed 18 kg in 28 days for his role as a starving prisoner in Sarbjit. His performance garnered rave reviews, even though the film didn’t do so well.

6. Abhishek Bachchan

May be his career didn’t take off properly, but Abhishek Bachchan’s performance in Guru cannot be discounted. Everything from his acting to his look was spot on. The actor had undergone massive weight gain to achieve the look of a wealthy businessman for the film and we must say his efforts paid off.

7. Priyanka Chopra

PC is one of the few actresses who are known for their commitment towards their role. She shed seven kilograms in 20 days and gained muscle mass to play the award-winning boxer Mary Kom in her biopic.

8. Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan’s transformation as Silk Smitha for Dirty Picture was one of the most epic in Bollywood. She was one of the first in the industry to break the stereotype of only think women looking sexy. For her, being overweight was a complement.

9. Bhumi Pednekar

Bhumi is a new age perfectionist, who did everything to fit in the role of an educated, but adjusting small town girl for Dum Laga Ke Haisha. She gained 30 kg and ended up looking twice her age. The actress later shed her weight and transformed into a diva. For her upcoming Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, she looks absolutely stunning.

10. Prabhas

He looked like any other, average film star till he got a role in Baahubali, which proved to be the turning point for his career. He went from 82 kg to around 200 kg for his role and that clearly seemed to have paid off in every sense.

11. Kareen Kapoor Khan

Right now Bebo is trying to lose her post-pregnancy weight, but there was a time when she had become size zero, losing about 12 kilograms by practicing yoga and following a clean diet. She did this for her film Tashan.
