Imran Khan was a cricketing legend in Pakistan , especially after he won the World Cup 1992 for Pakistan after coming out of self – retirement . He was  also a popular name wherever cricket was played and especially in India where he had legions of fans , mostly women and there was talk about his  having an affair with Zeenat Aman , a story that fizzled out. He stopped playing big cricket after the World Cup and concentrated on social work and was involved in many activities which were all for the betterment of the people of Pakistan and he supervised all his activities all by himself.

It was in 1993 that his mother died of cancer and he decided to build a hospital for cancer victims in Karachi. He needed some bigf celebrity to lay the foundation stone for the hospital and could have selected anyone in the world to be the chief guest , but he was such an ardent admirer of Dilip Kumar that he only wanted him to do the honours and Dilip Kumar accepted his invitation without thinking twice about the consequences because of the strained relationship between and Pakistan.

He laid the foundation stone for the hospital which was to be named Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre , in honour of his mother. In his speech in English and Urdu Dilip Kumar said it was his pride and privilege to be present on an occasion which spoke volumes for the benevolence of Imran who he was already a great admirer of as a cricketer. The thespian praised Imran for the work he was doing and said he had never seen one man taking on so many challenges and meeting them successfully. In the same speech he said that the building of the hospital was only a sign of the great things to happen in the life of Imran. He indirectly said that Imran would be a leader of the people of Pakistan and not many took him seriously. Dilip Kumar should have been in the best of heath ,  which he is certainly not at 96 when he has lost his memory completely and even on all his senses. He would have been very proud of Imran and be very humble about the prediction he has made 25 year ago. Who knows if Imran was the prime minister and Dilip Kumar was the man he admired the most could help in breaking the ice between the two countries which are forever on a hostile path and the painful thing is that even Imran Khan when he took the oath as the prime minister shocked about teaching India a  lesson and getting hold of Kashmir
