5 Bollywood actresses who married just for money
New Update

We’re pretty sure you know how they say that ‘Money makes the world go round’! The saying does really hold true to the real world and when it comes to the glamorous world of Bollywood, it fills the bill all the more.

Several ladies from tinsel town who could not get the kind of success they would’ve hoped for, went on to quit tinsel town and marry businessmen who were raking in some serious bucks. Before you accuse us of being shallow, read on our curated list and think of other reasons why these actresses would have decided to tie the knot. We couldn’t!

1) Celina Jaitley and Peter Haag

The winner of Femina Miss India 2001 who debuted with the movie Janasheen, Celina Jaitley had an extremely average career graph in Bollywood. She could never get the kind of fame and popularity she would have hoped for. After several failed attempts, the actress decided to leave Bollywood and marry an Austrian businessman and well-established marketeer, Peter Haag. Celina is now happily married, lives in Dubai and is a doting mother to twin boys, Viraaj and Winston.

2) Tina Ambani and Anil Ambani

The Karz actress, Tina Munim got success early on in her career and became a household name after the massive success of the musical-drama film. However, with passing time and the cut-throat competition in the industry, Tina could not sustain herself and started losing out to newcomers. Before things could go completely downhill, the actress decided to marry the industrialist Anil Ambani and became the loving daughter-in-law of the richest family in the country.

3) Kim Sharma and Ali Punjani

Kim Sharma broke on to the scene with YRF’s Mohabbatein and it was anticipated that after arriving in such a grand manner, Kim would go on to be a big name. However, the actress followed it up with a chain of box office duds and was in news more for her link-up rumours with Yuvraj Singh rather than her work. The actress finally decided to bid adieu (for good) to the world of films and tie the knot with Ali Punjani, a wealthy Indian businessman based in Kenya. Although there were several rumours of trouble in Kim and Ali’s paradise, the actress recently rubbished all the rumours to rest in a series of tweets.

4) Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta

Former Miss India and actress Juhi Chawla tied the knot with industrialist Jay Mehta, the owner of the coveted Mehta Group which is spread over Africa, India, Canada and USA. The massive age difference between the two is what gave birth to the money-based marriage allegations on Juhi Chawla. The bubbly and chirpy Juhi, left films married Jay and became a home-maker - a decision perceived by many as expected. After being married for more than 20 years, Juhi has now made a successful comeback to the big screen and we can’t wait to see more of her on-screen.

5) Amrita Arora and Shakeel Ladakh

Amrita Arora made her Bollywood debut in 2002 opposite Fardeen Khan in the film Kitne Door Kitne Paas, which tanked at the box office - almost like her entire career did. After a failed innings in B-Town, Amrita tied the knot with Shakeel Ladak, a businessman in 2009. Even though Amrita faced criticism for her pregnancy before marriage, time proved to be the best fortune teller for her as she married Shakeel and the couple has been blessed with two sons.

To sum up, we’d just like to quote the former President of the USA Barack Obama who once said, “Money is not the only answer, but it makes a difference.” Hope you’re reading this, ladies!
