7th Delhi International Film Festival, 2018 Closes On A High Note!

Curtains came down on a weeklong event of 7^th Delhi International Film Festival, 2018. The festival which was organized from 14^th to 18^th October 2018, saw 194 films being showcased from 56 countries. The Delhi International Film Festival is organized by The Social Circle, in association with NDMC and with able support from Information & Broadcasting Ministry.Tourism and Culture Ministries , Film Bandhu- Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand were Associate Partners and the event was organized at the NDMC Convention Centre, New Delhi. This year, Tunisia was the Opening Special Country Partner, Indonesia the Closing Special Country Partner; Mexico, Australia and Syria were Country Partners.

The festival opened with the Tunisian Film Whispering Sands by noted director Naser Khamer, which also won the Best Film award. Naval the Jewel, a film in the Indian Showcase won the Best Actress Award for Shweta Menon. Noted Singer Daler Mehndi was honored with the Minar E Dilli Award.

Of the 600 films received from more than 75 countries, 194 films from 56 countries were showcased and 40 films were in Competition. Interesting films which drew the audiences were Naval The Jewel -Shweta Menon & Adil Hussain, Suicide Company Pvt Ltd - Swara Bhaskar, Ferrous - Vijay Raaz, Drishtii - Mugdha Godse. Along with these, Kashmiri Film Kul Gov Garem, Roopesh Sikand’s Unfit, Bhumi- made on child marriage, To Let - film on search for rented home, Too Late - a story of a girl’s struggles for sanitary napkins.

Films like Parchi, Breaking Barriers from Pakistan, Alta Bano(Two Sisters) from Bangladesh, which spoke about human struggles against all odds to fulfil their dreams or for existence, drew rave reviews in the Cinema Across the Border section. Kurdish Film Nujin by Director Vyesi Altay which spoke about a team of women who take on terrorists and A Simple Story of Love by Director Farzad Raphae, a story of two refugee women who come close despite the adversities, attracted the audiences. In a way, these films mirrored the new Iran that is developing.

The Five countries partnering with the festival also had a Special day each during the event, to showcase their films. Films from Tunisia and Indonesia were given special focus and on 15^th October a Syrian Films Day was celebrated. Likewise, 16^th Mexican Films Day and on 17^th Australian Films Day were celebrated.

Much in focus was the 7^th DIFF Art Show, which featured artworks from 10 artists including those by the famed Indonesian Artist Chrisnanda Dilaksna. Also, the Music video Khwaab Sunehre by USA based Indian Singer Ms. Alka Bhatnagar was awarded and the book Tears of Kashmir by author Sarfaraz Raza was launched during the festival.

The festival was very well attended by Diplomats, Political Personalities, Film makers and Journalists from all over the world. Participation from Vietnam, Pakistan and Slovakia were one of the highlights.

The 6^th Delhi International Film Festival, 2017 had showcased 167 films from 54 countries.
