A conversation with Amazon Mini TV Constable Girpade and his co-stars

Constable Girpade is a new Hindi TV web series, which is coming on Amazon Mini TV on 6th October. This is a cop-comedy drama, where a lot of entertainment will be seen with twists and turns. In the show, Gaurav Gera, Kushal Pawar, Neel Salekar, Muskaan Bamne, Chandni Bhabhra, Sanket Bhosle, and Vrijesh Hirje will be seen as some of the lead characters.

Question- First of all, many congratulations on the show, after watching the trailer it was clear that there is going to be a lot of comedy in it, what else is new in this show, would you like to say something?

Kushal- This show is my dream project, I started theater when I was in seventh standard since then I had only one dream to do a film or show in which I would be the main character, which takes its story forward.

Neil- When he had this dream, I was also in that dream which is why I have also been cast in this show, I was also a part of his dream project (jokingly).

Saad- This show started with its name itself, and this title was quite interesting. Girpade's real name is Mandar Gorpade, but people call him Girpade. When I was writing this show, I had seen a reel of Kushal in which he was playing many characters, then I had in my mind that he would be perfect for Girpade’s character. The big cop comedy genre felt like an unexplored territory to me, we have probably seen 'Main Khiladi to Anari' last in this genre. There was only one audition for the character 'Constable D'Mello', and that was of Neil after that I did not want to see anyone else, then Neil was signed.

Question- Neel and Kushal, how do you feel when your work gets so much appreciation?

Neel- What else does an artist need other than appreciation and love for his work, when we work we are always in doubt as to how it has turned out, we have given our best, but we can’t see it from a third person perspective, finally, the trailer has been released, and looking at the response of the people it seems that we have done some good work, now when the show comes, it will be known from the comments only what and what kind of work has been done.

Kushal- One thing that I have realized is that hard work, whatever it may be, is necessary. Earlier I used to shoot on the road, we used to get the idea at home about what to do and then we used to take three-four clothes and leave in the auto. From this, I came to know that no matter where you are working just work hard, you will definitely get the fruits of your hard work. It takes time and you will get a little angry, but when everything goes right in the end, you will feel good.

Saad- I always used to say that comedy is a serious business, writing comedy and acting is very difficult. Initially, we had rehearsals, and because of that, we did not face much difficulty in improvising the scenes during the shoot. There is some difficulty in every project, if there is no difficulty then it is not that much fun in the end. We had a lot of fun, but we were also particular about some things that we had to do in this scene in this way only, we had a lot of fun shooting it.

Question- How was the experience of shooting with the entire cast?

Saad- It was a lot of fun, all these people are very talented. Whatever work they do, the audience also likes it and shares it with love. There is no comparison to the love you earn as an artist. As a comedy director, when I saw his work, it seemed so effortless and I saw the same thing in the entire cast. The show has veteran actors Vrijesh Hirje, Atisha Naik ji, Gaurav Gera, and Sanket Bhosle, and all of them together have done amazing work, and that has helped me a lot in my direction.

Question- What kind of preparation was there to play the character, what was the experience like, would you like to share something?

Neil- The cast of this show is a different spectrum, there are some people who are still working and some new people like us, so this combination was fun, at first I was scared about how we match their energy. Will be able to do it or not? But they are very nice and sweet people. When everyone started working, it was a lot of fun. I have seen a lot of Vrijesh Ji's films, so when I got to work with him, I felt like I was doing something good in life.

Saad- We have taken a lot of takes, whenever there was a scene, first I used to say wonderful, then when they moved towards the second scene I used to say no, let's do one more take. (Jokingly)

Kushal- This is the first time that I have had such a big opportunity, generally when we act on reels, we do three to four takes. Our acting quota gets exhausted in one hour, no matter how many characters you play in it. But I had shot for more than twelve hours for the show, Constable Girpade has long lines, so my target was not to forget the lines because if I made a mistake, everyone's time would be wasted. That's why I remained focused on my character and line all the time.

Saad- Both of them are worthy of praise, for the hard work they have done from the first day, I hope people will like this hard work and people will love the show.

Question- What is the special thing about this project, what can the audience expect from it?

Saad- You can expect a lot of comedy, but there is also a little drama. Constable Girpade is a representation of good things, all the good things happening because of him, he is doing the good works in the show.

Neil- We have covered everything in this show, it has dance, drama, emotion, horror comedy, and also a message. You will not be bored at all, and you will realize something new with every episode.

Kushal- To prepare for this, we also went to the police station for two days, talked to them, and tried to understand their life, it is very difficult to live in the constable clothes and shoes that we are wearing in the show.

Neil- Before this show, I was afraid of policemen, but now my respect for them has increased. While doing the show, I understood their problems, now I can understand their problems to some extent. Now my view of the police has changed.
