But on the morning of july 3 , Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao Khan made a joint declaration about their relationship no longer been that of a husband and wife, they would separately and yet work together to bring up their son Azad and work together in all their film projects, their commitment to their trust , Paani Foundation and other projects they had jointly undertaken .

The complete details about this unexpected happening are still awaited, but we have with us their joint statement about what turns their lives would take from the time this announcement has been made official by the couple that was considered to be an ideal couple which had stood the tests of time for more than 15 years.

"In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences,joy and laughter , and our relationship has only grown in trust , respect and love .

Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our life- no longer as husband and wife , but as co-parents and family for each other .

We began a planned separation sometime ago , and feel comfortable to formalize this arrangement, of living separately get sharing our lives the way an extended family does .

We remain devoted to our son Azad , who we will nurture and raise together . We will continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani Foundation and other projects that we feel passionate about.

A big thank you to our families and friends for their constant support and understanding about the evolution in our relationship and without whom we not have been so secure in taking this leap.

We request all our well wishers for good wishes and blessings , and hope that - like us - you will see this divorce not as an end , but as the start of a new journey.

This is not an everyday happening . It is not even a story of a man and a woman who are celebrities and are looked upto as ideals and idols .

What they do is not taken very lightly. The protectors of our systems and values , besides all the traditions will have their own say in this matter which can have all kinds of impacts on both young and old people.

The law may also have its way . But as an admirer of Aamir and Kiran, this kind of an arrangement I think could have avoided .
