An Inclusive Fashion Film with a Message, Displaying Couture Like Never Before

March 2, 2023: Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla hosted an OTT-themed party to unveil their latest fashion film Mera Noor Hai Mashhoor starring Huma Qureshi at The Mansion, Rustomjee Elements Juhu. Uorfi Javed also made a special appearance.

Friends and clients of the designer duo who attended the film viewing included Radhika Merchant, Shweta Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Neetu Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Angad Bedi, Sonali Bendre & Goldie Bahl, Sussanne Khan, Arslan Goni, Natasa Stankovic Pandya, Gurfateh Pirzada, Babil Khan, Meezaan Jafri, Kusha Kapila, Komal Pandey, Siddharth Batra.

The décor had lush greens as backdrops and a hint of the ruins which feature in the fashion film with the highlight being an installation of designed gold masks which feature in the film.

The evening was an ode to living life to the fullest, living without fear of being judged.

About Mera Noor Hai Mashhoor

Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla don’t like doing things the ordinary way. They do the best they can to its grandest possibility. They have been experimenting with the movie medium under their very own banner and have released their latest fashion film, ‘Mera Noor Hai Mashhoor’.

The title ‘Mera Noor Hai Mashhoor’ conveys the message of the power of one’s luminous, divine self. The film is an ode to self-acceptance and is intended to create an experience where guilt and shame do not exist. Anne Rice’s quote serves as inspiration for it – “They had forgotten the first lesson, that we are to be powerful, beautiful, and without regret.”

The film sets represent influences from ancient Greek ruins and the Renaissance era. They also include a unique peacock bed and a multiple-mirror room.

Abu Sandeep says, “This film’s theme is the human instinct of gravitating towards pleasure and the guilt that often follows because of it. It encourages self-acceptance in who you are and what you desire.”

Starring Huma Qureshi and Aashim Gulati, the film features an inclusive cast of more than 40 people including supermodel Ujjwala Raut and actor Tarun Arora. Uorfi Javed also makes a special appearance.

‘Mera Noor Hai Mashhoor’ also includes cosmic-inspired VFX. The opening scene shows Huma swallowing a digitally created star offered by the sky. Commenting on the collaboration, Huma says “It was an honour to work with Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. They truly transform a woman with their clothes. The experience was as surreal as the film itself. My role is that of a tantalizing enabler. I encourage others to embrace their desires with total self-acceptance.”

Abu Sandeep respond “No one could have played the part better than Huma. The way she emotes and carries herself distinguishes her as an artiste of unparalleled talent.”

Abu Sandeep discovered and encouraged the film’s director, writer, musicians and many non-models. They are known to give people an opportunity to shine. Sandeep remarks, “It matters because that’s how Abu and I were introduced to the world – by generous patrons who believed in our art.”

While Abu Sandeep conceptualized the film, first-time director Sharic Sequeira brought the story to the screen. Musician duo Nakul Sharma and Sahil Bhatia of Burudu composed the original song. Singers Indus and Ananya Bhowmick sang lyrics written by Arshiyaa Taj Khan, who also wrote the story.

Abu Sandeep comments “We have always been passionate about music and it has been a huge part of our creative process. So we commissioned the brilliant boys of Burudu to compose an original song. We first invested in original music back in 1999 and even our last three fashion films feature fresh compositions.”

Nakul and Sahil say “Trust is a prerequisite to creating with total freedom. We got that from Abu Sandeep. They ensured we weren’t restricted in any way. They gave us the world they wanted and let us fill it with our melodies. That made the process very exciting for us and honestly, a lot of fun. This energy seeps into the music – it’s the intangible that makes its way into the sound.”

Uorfi Javed says, “My outfits were so perfect, not a single bead was out of place! The embroidery, detailing and material were beyond superior. I also loved how inclusive their cast was. I’m about inclusivity too – so it was really just the coming together of like-minded individuals who are more receptive to their inner voice than the harsh judgment of society.”

She further adds, ”My character in the film depicts my real-life feeling of never truly belonging anywhere. I am a glamorous voyeur in Abu Sandeep’s fantasy world.”

Like always, Abu Sandeep have created a massive collection that took mammoth dedication to come to fruition. All the garments, accessories and shoes have been handcrafted. From bright and earthy tones to the classic marriage of beige and black, concluded by heavenly whites, the collections boast intricate hand embroidery and adornments like crystals and pearls. The notable silhouettes include beaded bralettes, Anarkali sarees, ghagras, kaftans, circular skirts and for the very first time – bondage-inspired Indian couture.

FILM HIGHLIGHTS –

• ‘Mera Noor Hair Mashhoor’ is the first fashion film with VFX.

• The film features 4 indulgent looks for each model, making it a display of more than 150 garments curated from 18 collections handcrafted by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The garments are showcased by an inclusive cast of 40 models and non-models.

• Film sets designed by A Wonder Room by Abu Sandeep. 3 distinct sets were built and one of them featured a complex mirror room.

• This is the most ambitious AJSK production where 300+ people from many walks of life gathered at a 15000 square foot space.

• The film also features surreal animal masks and bondage-inspired Indian couture.
