Ace Director To Make A Film In Marathi For Producer Girish Mohite

The ace director Priyadarshan who has directed as many as 94 films till date in various Indian languages besides Malayalam including Tamil and Telugu is now all set to make his debut as a director of a Marathi film. "It will not be a remake of any Malayalam hit of mine for sure but an original plot. The veteran director Girish Mohite will produce the film for me", quipped Priyadarshan when I met him at the Master Class that he conducted at the IFFI in Goa.

Priyadarshan who has not directed a film in Hindi in Bollywood for the last seven years confessed that it is only because of Internet as well as mobile phones which exist today that he will not be able to remake any Malayalam hit of his that he had made say 30 years ago.

Not many are aware of the fact that Aditya Dhar the bright young director of the super duper hit of this year-Uri was actually his assistant earlier. Interestingly, Priyadarshan had directed the Malayalam super star Mohanlal in as many as 44 films that he had directed, a record not yet held by any other director including Manmohan Desai or for that matter Prakash Mehra who had collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan in many films consecutively.

Confessing that most obedient actors of Bollywood tend to become 'directors' when they end up as stars and start interfering with their directors and that is why their films end up as flops and their bad phase starts, Priyadarshan jokes seriously that  he does not even consider having bagged the Padmashri a feat but getting a star like say Shah Rukh Khan report on the sets at 7 am is, because Shah Rukh Khan or for that matter any other star is used to sleep at 3 am and gets up only by 11 am.

Priyadarshan signs off by telling that he is also all set to launch the sequel of his first Hindi hit Hungama by the middle of next year after he is able to complete his Marathi film and adds that he is impressed to a great extent by the quality of Marathi films in recent times after having seen as many as 300 films in various Indian languages including Marathi recently as the Chairman of the Indian Panorama in Delhi for the onlooking IFFI which is being held in Goa
