Actor Romiit Raaj: To attract more people to multiplexes, it is essential to lower ticket prices significantly and make food and beverages affordable

Even though there have been a string of hit blockbusters like Pathan, Tu Jhooti Mein Makaar, The Kerala Story, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, and Satya Prem Ki Katha, have been successful, footfalls in theatres still seems to be unpredictable. Actor Romiit Raaj talks about how the entertainment industry has changed with the advent of OTT.

“Frankly, people prefer to watch free content on OTT platforms or television at home for the sake of convenience. They are not inclined to spend 2k or 3k every weekend to watch a film in theaters. The exorbitant prices of food in multiplexes, coupled with the absurdity of selling popcorn for 500 bucks, only add to the scepticism. Today’s generation, including kids, is discerning and they perceive it as a waste of money,” says the actor, known for TV shows Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann, Maayka, Khichdi, Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala and Yashomati Maiyaa Ke Nandlala.

Romiit has watched "Pathaan" and "Mission Impossible" in theatre and enjoyed them. “I am a Shah Rukh Khan and Tom Cruise fan, so I would not have missed this opportunity anyway,” he smiles.

Cinema is always a larger-than-life experience. Talking more on what should be done to revive footfalls in theatres, he adds, “To attract more people to multiplexes, it is essential to lower ticket prices significantly, perhaps to the range of 100 bucks or even lower. Additionally, making food and beverages more affordable would also help create a better value proposition for moviegoers.”
