The teenagers today may not be aware of the bitter truth that manual scavenging though banned by law in India a long time ago,was not only a common malpractice in rural and certain parts of urban India but in fact still is, in spite of contrary claims. Though seldom has Bollywood or any Indian filmmaker has gone deep into the stinking gutters of urban India or ventured to go and study makeshift toilets of rural India to throw light on this rotten aspect of society, filmmaker Aditya Om who has recently completed his feature film titled Excreta (Maila) on the topic of manual scavenging, has to be patted on the back for having dared to do exactly done just that. Shot in Bundelkhand and Chambal region of UP, Excreta (Maila) is all set to start its film festival circuit early next year. Aditya Om says that In spite of the government’s sincere efforts the plight of sanitation workers is extremely pitiable even today as this custom is still prevalent in certain pockets. The filmmaker further reiterates that his film will be a shocker and eye opener to the world. Aditya Om’s last Hindi film Maassab had won more than 25 awards in film festivals and is now gearing up for not only theatrical but also digital release. All local artists have been cast suitably in the film including Shiva Suryavanshi and Rafi Khan.
