After receiving negative protests and bitter backlash on various aspects of the recent movie ‘Adipurush’, the CBFC has apparently become extra-vigilant. The Certification ( Censor) Board is taking preventive- 'preemptive measures' to avoid any repeat backlash over the next satirical-spiritual comedy movie ‘Oh My God 2’ dialogues, lyrics, or scenes. The upcoming film which releases on August 11th, features Akshay Kumar in the lead role with Yami Gautam ( as advocate-lawyer) and Pankaj Tripathi.
Theatre audiences will definitely miss the terrific star presence of OMG (2012) cast Paresh Rawal, Mahesh Manjrekar, Govind Namdev, Poonam Jhawer and Mithun Chakraborty in the sequel OMG-2
There is no clarity yet about which scenes or dialogues in Oh My God 2 have caused concern to the CBFC. ( Central Board of Film Certification). Once the film goes to the Revising Committee,(RC) the CBFC will reportedly take a decision on the movie. which is expected to be certified latest by next week-end...
CBFC has now taken “preemptive measures” to avoid any backlash over Oh My God 2 dialogues and scenes. CBFC will send any movie dealing with subjects like God or religion for review and revision, added the source.
As per the Censor Board revised Guidelines (1997), the Certifying Committee “has to ensure that visuals or words contemptuous of racial, religious or other groups are not presented” -----in the movie by the producer, director, and its cast and crew.
Director Om Raut's Adipurush has been entangled in controversies ever since it was released last month. The film stars Southside super-star Prabhas as Raghava, Kriti as Janaki, Sunny Singh as Laxman, and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh.
The film Adipurush faced heavy criticism over its dialogues, costumes and cartoon-like graphics. Since its release, there have also been frequent protests against Adipurush, while some challenged the depiction of its characters, others said it hurt the sentiments of people, who have grown up watching the Doordarshan show Ramayan.
Later, the film's makers released a revised version after changing some of the dialogues. Adipurush dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir also issued an 'unconditional' apology following the backlash. In his apology note, he had admitted that Adipurush had hurt people's sentiments.
OMG 2 is directed by Amit Rai and shows Akshay Kumar as a character inspired by Lord Shiva. OMG 2 also features Yami Gautam,
Pankaj Tripathi and Arun Govil of (‘Ram’ of Ramayan fame). It is set to be released on August 11 and will clash with Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer Gadar 2 at the box office.
Musical hit OMG - Oh My God (2012), which also included a Govinda Aala Rey fantastic item-dance by Sonakshi Sinha with Prabhu Devaa, had featured the story of Kanji-bhai Mehta (Paresh Rawal), who files a case against God for the destruction of his shop (dealing in religious icons-statues-pictures) in an earthquake. OMG (2012) directed by Umesh Shukla had Akshay Kumar cast in as the human avatar of Lord Krishna,.but this time in OMG-2 (2023) directed by Amit Rai he is playing an avatar of Lord Shiva..
