AKSHAY KUMAR SIGNS 'LAND OF LUNGI' WITH FARHAD

Akshay Kumar who was last seen in the satirical comedy Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has now signed a film with Farhad, tentatively titled Land of Lungi. The actor already has four films in his kitty this year—Gold, 2.0, Padman, and Kesar.

The upcoming film, which is Farhad's solo directorial debut, is the remake of a Tamil film, Veeram (2014), that had Ajith in the lead role. The film will have Akshay as a lungi-clad hero and will be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The original was a village-based drama, hence, the remake is also likely to be based in the heartland of India, a background that Akshay has explored in several of his recent outings.

In a recent interview, a source close to the film said, “Akshay hasn’t done a South remake since Boss, so this will be a good change for his fans. Akshay is very comfortable with Farhad’s brand of humour. As for Akshay and Sajid, this will be their ninth film together. They make a great team and are good friends, too. The original film had done good business, and looking at the combination that has come together for the remake, this seems like a safe bet."

The original film  had Tamannaah Bhatia as the female lead. We have to wait to see if she will be cast in the remake too. On the work front, Akshay is currently shooting for Reema Kagti’s Gold and R Balki’s Padman. And soon he will begin promoting Shankar’s 2.o in which he makes his Tamil debut.
