ALIA BHATT ON KATHUA RAPE CASE

The entire nation is in shock and disbelief and rage with the details of the Kathua rape and murder case. An 8-year-old girl was kidnapped, drugged, brutally raped for days and then murdered. The police have arrested eight persons in the case but the Bar Association is not willing to take any action owing to “targeting of minority Dogras”.

At the song launch of Raazi, Alia Bhatt was asked about the case and she said, "It's a terrible thing that has happened. As a girl, a woman, an individual, a human being and as a part of this country, I feel very bad and hurt that this has happened."

Alia added, "There was a time when I was reading a lot about it. From the last two days, I have parted myself with this as this was making me more and more upset and angry. I really hope, in my heart, that justice is served. We all should go out and condemn it".

Raazi is the film based on Harinder Sikka’s book Calling Sehmat, a fictionalized take on the real story of an Indian woman who married a Pakistani man to spy for India. Alia Bhatt plays Sehmat and Vicky Kaushal is seen as Iqbal (Sehmat's husband) in the film.

The film is scheduled to release on May 11.
