The action genre intrigues audiences of all ages. The thematic issues addressed in the works of action inspire us in many ways. The action genre is packed with stars who always put out a message of standing tall and strong against the odds for everything that counts. From globally acclaimed stars such as Harrison Ford and Robert De Niro, here are the timeless actors and creators from the Indian film industry who heavily contributed to the action space.

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan debuted in the year 1969 with the action film Saat Hindustani, where he played a humble poet who led a patriotic revolution in India. Ever since his first film, Amitabh has given back-to-back, action-packed hits that continue even to this day! Cult classics such as Deewar, Mard, Sholay, Don and Coolie sported Amitabh in roles overflowing with action that was relatable to the common man of the ’70s and ’80s, playing underdogs from humble professions who displayed heroism and taking stances that empowered men of generations to come!

Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford’s entire career has promised blazing action mainly under the backdrops of Adventure and Sci-Fi genres. After pursuing carpentry for eight odd years of his life, Harrison Ford became a breakthrough superstar after bagging a role from the legendary director/ producer George Lucas. Robert De Niro

If Harrison Ford has brought an adventurous flavor to the action genre, it is safe to say that Robert De Niro pioneered the crime-thriller aspect of action films. In blockbusters such as Goodfellas, The Godfather, Taxi Driver and Irish Man (2019) Robert established himself in the neo-noir genre and he still continues to “make us offers we cannot refuse” with a bit of elegance in his lethal works.

Mahesh Kothare

While the rest of the actors bedazzled the action screens. This Mumbai homegrown director introduced the craft of horror and action to Marathi Silver screens and daily soaps altogether. Mahesh Kothare rocked terrifying horror classics like Zapatlela (Maharashtra’s own version of Chucky) and Pachaadlela introducing the world of VFX and experimental technologies to a heavily budget-conservative industry.
