Amitabh Bachchan’s Sentimental Goan Connection At ‘IFFI-50’ In Goa, This Month As is known that superstar Amitabh Bachchan will be inaugurating the prestigious International Film Festival of India ( IFFI) 50th ‘Golden Jubilee’ edition, By Team Bollyy 05 Nov 2019 | Updated On 05 Nov 2019 10:20 IST in Latest Trending New Update Follow Us Share Chaitanya Padukone As is known that superstar Amitabh Bachchan will be inaugurating the prestigious International Film Festival of India ( IFFI) 50th ‘Golden Jubilee’ edition, in Goa on November 20, as informed by Union I & B Minister Prakash Javadekar . Southside revered icon ‘Thalaiva’ Rajinikanth will also be honoured with the ‘Golden Jubilee’ icon award most probably by the Big B. Interestingly, this year Amitabh’s debut film ‘Saat Hindustani ( 1969 ) which had the backdrop of the Goa-liberation movement, also completes 50 years of its release. The IFFI-50 will be showcasing a retrospective of Amitabh Bachchan as he was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke National supreme cinematic award this year, that also makes him the 50th recipient of the prestigious Phalke Award. It is interesting to note that the backdrop of Goa has featured in at least three Amitabh-movies including ‘Bombay to Goa’ and ‘Pukar’, besides ‘Saat Hindustani’ . In fact, the musical mega-hit crime-thriller movie ‘Bombay to Goa’ (1972) is considered a major take-off point for Big B’s acting career. With a chartbusting score by R D Burman, the song ‘Dekha Na Haaye Rey’ ( from ‘BTG’) is an evergreen chartbuster even now. Retro-music-buffs will recall that this romantic duet-song from ‘Bombay To Goa, which goes ‘ Dil Tera Hai, Main Bhi’ even has Konkani folk-song verses segued into the track interlude. Which reminds one that the ‘IFFI-50’ has introduced a new Konkani films section from this year. The ‘IFFI-50’ attendees and delegates this year would be ‘missing’ the presence of ‘late’ former popular Goa C.M Manohar Parrikar’s absence would be conspicuously felt by the entire attending film-fraternity. It was all thanks to the ‘josh’ and ‘initiative-vision’ of unassuming Parrikar-saayba that the venue of the ‘IFFI’ was permanently shifted from Delhi to the tourist-super-friendly Goa, since 2004. With its exotic beaches and a care-free exuberant culture and the feast of classy films the Goan- IFFI steadily emerged a favourite with thousands of both Indian and foreign film-makers and top filmy celebrities.
