The Annapurna Devi Foundation, in association with Acharya Allauddin Music Circle and Bhargava’s Musik (Bandra), is organising ‘Antarik’, a classical music concert, on Saturday, 20th April at the Royal Opera House, Mumbai, in the memory of Acharya Baba Allauddin Khan, who revolutionised North Indian instrumental music and was Guru to musical icons such as Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Annapurna Devi.According to Pt. Nityanand Haldipur, acclaimed Hindustani classical flautist and Managing Trustee of the Annapurna Devi Foundation, "The event assumes significance because for several decades until last year, this annual tribute to Baba Allauddin Khan used to be organised under the auspices of his daughter and surbahar extraordinaire, Annapurna Devi, who passed away last year. In this year’s edition, two young artists will showcase two of the most illustrious and unique traditions in the firmament of Hindustani music that they represent".

The first half of this concert will feature the young and talented sarod player, Shiraz Ali Khan of the Maihar gharana, who happens to be the great grandson of Baba Allauddin Khan. His playing is characterised by an eclectic mix of Beenkar, Rababiya and Dhrupad vocal styles, which he has absorbed through his studies under his grandfather Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, father Prof. Dhyanesh Khan, uncle Ustad Aashish Khan and aunt Ameena Perera. He will be accompanied by Sourabh Goho on tabla. The second half will feature renowned singer, Kalapini Komkali, who is the daughter and disciple of the legendary Pandit Kumar Gandharva and Vidushi Vasundhara Komkali. Gifted with a strikingly original voice, Kalapini’s singing bears the unmistakable stamp of creativity and reflection that she has inherited from her illustrious parents. She will be accompanied by Niranjan Lele on harmonium and Mandar Puranik on tabla. This concert is free to the public and passes for the concert may be collected from Bhargava's Musik (Bandra), Maharashtra Watch & Gramophone Company (Dadar), or (on the day of the event) the Venue.
