Tani used to be Anurag's boss at that time. This love story started from a dining table in Five Star. During a dinner, a lot of food was served on the table. Whereas, being a Bengali, Anurag loves to eat fish. However, even after seeing the fish, Anurag was confused as to how to eat it. The director said in one of his interviews, 'During the making of Kites, I lost my father, who was everything to me. I blame myself for his death. I was writing a death scene in a television show and was thinking what would happen if my father died.

further said, 'That night I went to his room, hugged him and came back. Shortly after I wrote that scene, he had a heart attack and passed away. I was shattered and it affected everything in my life. My father wanted to be successful in Mumbai. Even though my father fulfilled his dream of being a part of Bollywood through me, I always felt guilty that I became successful when he was not. He was my inspiration and I miss him a lot.
