“As long as ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’ goes on, I will be a part of the show”- says Manmohan Tiwari aka Rohitashv Gaur of ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’

&TV’s cult-comedy show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain recently completed eight years and has aired 2000 episodes. On this special occasion, we spoke to Rohitashv Gaur who plays Manmohan Tiwari in the show and asked about his extraordinary journey. Here are the highlights of the conversation with him:
- How are you celebrating your birthday this year?
Like every year, I am spending my birthday with my loved ones this year too. Currently I am shooting on the sets of my show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai with my fellow Daras. This set is my second home and the people here are my second family. On this special occasion, I have arranged some delicious food for everyone. And hope everyone will like it. However, I am also hoping to get a cake from his side (laughs). I would like to spend the evening with my family and some special friends by having dinner at a nice place to create some new memories.
- Recently your show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai completed 8 years and 2000 episodes together, how is it feeling?
It is a very special moment for all of us as it is a double celebration. The television industry is very competitive where there are very few shows that can sustain their success and Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain has excelled in this matter. I am thankful to the channel and our producers Sanjay Kohli and Binaifer Kohli for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. Eight years have passed and our relationship is still going strong. The show has played a huge role in building my career and earning me a lot of loyal fans.
- How does it feel to be recognized by the name of your character Manmohan Tiwari?
My journey as Tiwari has been amazing. This character has become a household name. The character has connected so beautifully that people often call me Tiwari ji instead of Rohitashv. Sometimes people even ask me, ‘How is your Kachche Baniyaan shop going on?'” (laughs). This shows the success of our show and its characters. I believe that not only Tiwari, but every character in this show has created a special place in the hearts of the audience. On several occasions, our fans have shared how watching this show has filled their lives with happiness. We have also been receiving letters from patients who say that watching the show helped them forget their pain and that its humor helped them get through their tough days with ease. I consider myself lucky for this and am grateful to the audience.
- How does your family react to seeing you play such a heartwarming character on television?
To be honest, I was hesitant about playing such a heartwarming character on Indian television. Initially I was worried about the reaction of the audience. But my wife Rekha convinced me to do this role and today we are at this place. Eight years apart, we are celebrating two major achievements. My family enjoys watching me on television as much as the fans of our show do. My wife understands my work and roles and has always supported me. He has always inspired me. My children have been my biggest supporters and critics throughout my career. His advice and mentorship helps me to perform better.
- Which is your favorite episode of all time?
Each story line in this show is unique and hilarious, so it is very difficult to pick one. However, one story that I am missing is the character of Madan Mohan Tiwari, the hippie younger brother of Manmohan Tiwari. He was the exact opposite of Manmohan Tiwari’s character. Madan Mohan Tiwari’s casual clothing, long matted hair and his peculiarly awkward English speaking was very entertaining. In the absence of Manmohan Tiwari, he used to flirt with Angoori and burn Vibhuti. I got a lot of positive feedback from the audience. It’s always fun to get into quirky and funny characters and entertain your audience.
- Any one similarity between Rohitashv Goud and Manmohan Tiwari?
Like Manmohan Tiwari, I am also a middle-class man who loves his family and can go to any extent to give them lots of happiness and love.
- Recently you said that after ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’ you will not work on television. What is the reason for this?
I belong to theater and have worked in many films. ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’ has given me a lot of recognition. I don’t think any other television show has given me this much popularity and satisfaction as an actor. Wherever I go, people recognize me as Manmohan Tiwari and I am very happy and proud to have played such an iconic character. As long as ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’ is on, I will be a part of the show. This show will always be my first priority.
