Come September B”Day- on 8th September, 2023 exactly one month to go for the big day. Asha Bhosle gave away a few secrets while answering a few questions exclusively in Mumbai to Mayapuri

Asha Bhosle, a Versatile Veteran Bollywood playback singer will have a 90th working B” Day -8th September, 2023. It’s going to be a spectacular Musical Mega Event like the Broadway Show in Dubai for the iconic living legend who is still energetic with a long-cherished memory to enjoy which is still there in her mind. This Mega Event Is the Combined Brainchild of Her Dynamic Son Anand (‘Nandu’) Bhosle.

What kind of songs does Asha Bhosale love to sing?

I love to hear classical songs, filmy songs and also ghazals. I like family songs as well. I have sung Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi Gujarati songs in other languages also.

So you still do riyaaz even now?

I never thought of becoming a playback singer but the situation was such that I turned into a singer. I have heard songs that my dad used to sing from my childhood. Didi would be singing. I started singing too. Today, from 7AM to 7 PM I do my singing. At times even during late nights or early morning if I don’t get sleep I put on tanapura and start singing.

Lata Di and Asha ji are iconic singers and have unfurled their flag all over the globe. We hear you never celebrated your birthdays??

Look, we start celebrating Bdays right from the time we are born. Many people celebrate their birthday on their own, but I haven't celebrated my birthday myself. My husband also never celebrated it. My kids celebrated. I remember, in those days we were very busy as on my birthdays I would be recording especially...on the 8 September. Shankar jai Kishan and Usha Khanna would purposely choose my birth date for recording my songs. This would be like my working birthday and the entire day long we would spend our day singing.

How do you celebrate your birthday usually as this 90th your birthday is being celebrated in a very unique manner? Why?

We usually perform puja at home so that is what we do every year….aur bus mug meetha kar lete hai . For this 90th birthday I never decided or discussed anything. This time my son told me- I have organized a show on your birthday in Dubai. He has selected a few songs for me to sing on my 90 birthday in Dubai. We have done this kind of 2 shows earlier. But in this, we will be presenting a few different numbers of mine singing on the stage. Surprisingly, he also has organized this show on my birthday merely because he also knows that I enjoy working and this is a birthday gift for me. Everyone knows when I'm not working my energy levels slows down and my entire day passes in low spirits. So in order to keep me in high spirits this is a precious gift to me from my son.

Other than singing, what other things bring peace and satisfaction to you?

In my opinion, we as human beings should help others if they face any mental issues, health issues and help others fulfilling their needs towards education and other necessities. Doing all this you get so much satisfaction and peace. I don't feel that by singing songs I have done a huge thing. I didn’t know anything but just worked hard and continued singing.

Your lifetime achievement sets an example not only to every woman around the globe but to every individual? Comment?

I have worked hard, though everyone faces bad times but sailing through the bad times represents your strength, moulding yourself doing good work will help us pass out with flying colours.
