Get ready to witness India’s first ever Super-soldier take on the terrorists and secure the nation with the World Television Premiere of Attack on Zee Cinema on 26th June at 8pm.
A homegrown story with action matching the international level, Attack features John Abraham as the super-soldier along with Rakul Preet Singh and Jacqueline Fernandez in pivotal roles.
Taking the genre to the next level, John Abraham opens up about unconventional film choices, producing Attack and experimenting with action genres.
● The film is based on a fairly new concept. What is it that compelled you to take this project up, as a producer, and an actor?
I have always wanted to take action in India to the next level and this film gave me that opportunity. But honestly, it isn’t as much about the action as it is about the attitude, and that’s what we tried to maintain in the film.
As a producer, I wanted to risk a lot in the kind of content that I was making. If you do what you’ve always done, you might face disappointment. But if you're making something different and risk the probability of failure, you at least tried something different.
I wanted to reinvent action and didn't want to play safe. Attack is an action film for the world of tomorrow. If you look at modern warfare, it isn’t conventional anymore.
Keeping that in mind, we have made this film technologically elevated while keeping the patriotic appeal in the top gear. And the beauty of the film is that every generation can watch the film.
● Looking at your work trajectory that encompasses films like Attack, Batla House, No Smoking, you always take up projects that are different. What is your selection process like?
One has to ask themselves what they want in life. Do you want money or respect? For me, it’s respect. And I take complete responsibility for my choices. Every day is a learning process. Every day is a choice.
You can go horribly wrong or you can make the best decision – that’s a bet you need to put on your instinct. Failure is not a fear I have anymore.
There’s always going to be another chance. This is why I select films that are radically different. That keeps me going absolutely all the time.
● You’ve been a part of numerous films that have an underlying sentiment of patriotism. Why did you decide to write a story that has elements of patriotism merged with technology?
The combination of technology and patriotism is very unusual and gripping at the same time. It’s always cool when we see international films like this on-screen.
I’ve always thought - why can't India make a film like that? So, with Attack, we have tried to make a film which is unique to India. The idea was to make an edge-of-the-seat sci-fi action thriller but in the process, I think we have made India's first super-soldier.
I try to be part of films that I think will excite audiences, films that will challenge everyone’s thinking. But the actual intent is to make a good film that makes me happy as well.
● You’ve done a lot of action films so, what is your favourite part about the same?
To be an action hero you have to look like an action hero and you need to have that physicality and look. I have always been inclined towards fitness so I feel like I understand this space easily, it comes naturally to me.
That being said, I am happiest on my bike. So, any film with a bike chase and stunt, I will immediately say yes to.
