The two sisters' like friends of Beach apartment - Jaya and Rekha

Juhu was slowly becoming the hub for newcomers in the early 70's. Legends like Devanand, Balraj Sahni , Dharmendra, Dara Singh, Ramanand Sagar, B.R Chopra, Mohan Kumar, Raakesh Roshan and J. Om Prakash among many others had already built their own homes and had posh apartments in different buildings that has come up all over the suburb, The beach was the main attraction- Ali Peter John 

Rekha And jaya had a common friend called Asrani

It was in the early 70's that a building came up near the Hare krishna temple and it was called Beach Apartments.

There must have been something special about the building because it attracted several film personalities to have their homes in this building and one of the first to buy a huge apartment was the very popular and the highest paid dialogue writer , Inder Raj Anand who lived with his wife Shams and sons Tinnu and Bittu .

Slowly , newcomers who had come out of the FTII and others also bought apartments in the building.

And among them were the South Indian actress who was making it big in hindi films , Rekha who was previously living in a popular hotel called the Ajanta hotel.

She was taking her first few steps as a star and had shifted into the building and had a flat of her own on the third floor.

At the same time, there was a bright student from the FTII Jaya Bhaduri who had made it big with her very first hindi film , Guddi .

They gradually became the best of friends and exchanged notes about their career . They had a common friend called Asrani.

Friendship between Rekha and Jaya was the talk of the industry and the press, especially the gossip press

They went to shootings together whenever they could , but their friendship kept growing stronger and yet friendship between Rekha and Jaya was the talk of the industry and the press, especially the gossip press. 

Jaya had her best friend in a struggler called Amitabh Bachan and he kept visiting her and she took him to different shootings where she was the star.

Amitabh had still to make a mark and he looked for support from his friends living in Beach Apartments.

He didn't meet Rekha those days and the friendship between Jaya and Amitabh turned into a love story and ultimately even led to their being teamed in more than five films which unfortunately didn't work for them. But the failure of Amitabh didn't affect their relationship.

Destiny kept playing strange games and Amitabh after having eleven flops to his name found stardom with Zanjeer for which he was recommended and supported by Jaya who was the heroine of the film and Zanjeer changed the chain of the story of the struggler called Amitabh Bachan.

What follows was the marriage between Amitabh and Jaya and Jaya naturally had shifted from Beach Apartments to the bungalow of Amitabh and Rekha was so successful that she bought her own bungalow at Bandstand in Bandra facing the sea .

Her time came when Jaya was doing three or four films with Amitabh and at the same time Amitabh had made a very popular and successful team with Rekha.

Jaya opted out of films after her marriage, and Amitabh and Rekha came closer and this led to a thaw in the friendship between the two friends from Beach Apartments and the relationship between Amitabh and Rekha became the hottest subject for discussion in every nook and corner of the country and even abroad.

It was like war between the two best friends from Beach Apartments and that war continues even after more than thirty five years .

Some experts claim that Amitabh and Rekha are still very much in love while Jaya is a member of Parliament who is busy fighting for issues like the battle she fought recently in Parliament to answer the wild statements being made by Kangana Ranaut and others. 

The other friend from Beach Apartments are still there at Beach Apartments like Asrani , Shekher Kapoor who is now the head of the FTII and part of the family of Inder Raj Anand.

And they must be wondering how their sweet neighbours have gone out and conquered the world in their own ways .
