Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai actor Charrul Malik: In comedy shows, the good thing is that one never feels monotonous

Actors perform for their audience. It’s the reaction, love and appreciation they receive from their fans, get them going. Feedback is therefore important for a performer - Jyothi Venkatesh

But many can’t take criticism. They only want to hear nice things about their craft. Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai actor Charrul Malik shares her opinion.

“I always take feedback seriously. Deepesh Bhan always gave me feedback, ‘Charrul don't keep your hair straight, keep it curly, wavy and that looks good on you’. In the beginning I thought my original hair style was good.

I always take everyone’s feedback positively. In fact in Bhabiji Ghar par Hain, I didn't get much feedback. I am still craving for feedback. If you are not getting feedback from anyone, you get nervous, criticise, say good or bad anything but say something.

I really want people to come to me and give me feedback. We are working daily. But I remember getting the feedback that I need to talk softly, be yourself, enjoy the scenes, just open up, bring that. This feedback from Asif Sheikh helped me a lot.

He also told me ‘Charrul take your time, just be patient with yourself, don’t rush away with your sentences, with dialogues’. So I listen to them and I understand, observe good things from everyone. We should be confident but never over confident,” she says.

As an actor Charrul talks about what she does to break the monotony of her profession. “Our show is great. Every day is a new day. We work on a new story every day. In comedy shows, the good thing is that one never feels monotonous.

In daily soaps, as we know, most of the scenes are emotional. I think people who like to laugh, never feel monotonous. We laugh on set, make reels. That's a stress buster for us. The specialty of comedy is that there is no stress.

When we read the scripts and do practice, we laugh at that time also. In between the work, I dance, make reels, post something on Instagram, that helps me relax,” she adds.

About what one should do to bring variety in one's acting, the news anchor turned actor says, “One needs to be open to accept feedback. Secondly, actors should keep observing themselves.

I saw a lot of actors who say I never see my own show. I think we have to observe ourselves. We have to observe small things as well from your performance and rectify mistakes on the way.

If you have seen some good performance, incorporate that in your work. It's very important to observe everyone but don't lose your style. You have to be original, authentic. Listen to feedback, criticisms, good or bad.

I love to ask everyone questions about my performance. I think as an actor if you want variety in your work you have to take feedback and correct yourself. Thirdly, keep upgrading yourself.

Remember that we are not someone's duplicate, so be yourself. You have to create your own style. Keep progressing, upgrading, smiling, rebooting, learning and stay positive. Learning new skills also helps. Also, learn new things every day.”

Charrul also shares three tips to upcoming actors. “First of all, be a good observer. Observe everybody around you, not only the Bollywood actors but also regular people. It's my first tip.

Second is that you have to work on the way you speak. If we do not say our words clearly, then we can’t be good actors. The best actors know how to keep everyone engaged in the story.

Thirdly, looks don't matter, you have to create your style and never copy anyone. Sabko bhagwan ne special banaya hai. Be original and be comfortable in your skin,” she signs off.
