On Katrina Kaif’s 39th birthday, let’s talk about how her dance number, 'Chikni Chameli’, was a remake of the famous Marathi song ‘Kombadi Palali’.
On 16th July, Katrina Kaif will be celebrating her 39th birthday. On this occasion, we cannot help but talk about her ah-mazing item number ‘Chikni Chameli’ which was featured in the 2012 movie ‘Agneepath’.
It’s been almost 10 years since its release but many people are still not aware of the fact that it was a remake. Yes! You heard it right.
The fan-favorite ‘Chikni Chameli’ was a Hindi remake of the superhit Marathi song called ‘Kombadi Palali’ (trans. chicken's on the run!) from the 2006 Marathi-language movie ‘Jatra’.
The original ‘Kombadi Palali’ was sung by Anand Shinde & Vaishali Samant and was performed by Bharat Jadhav & Kranti Redkar. It was composed by the same duo, Ajay-Atul, who also gave the music for the movie ‘Agneepath’.
When it comes to composition, the Hindi version is ditto to the original foot-tapping Kombadi. On the other hand, when it comes to picturization ‘Chikni Chameli’ is more sexy, rustic, and raw in its appeal.
Thanks to Katrina Kaif’s moves and her ability to capture you in a trance, ‘Chikni Chameli’ has become a memorable number.
The Hindi version became an instant hit and due to its popularity, ‘Kombadi Palali’ also gained a lot of admiration from the fans. According to TOI, the singer of the original song, Vaishali Samant, stated that “Kombdi Padali is very popular song with Maharashtrians and I am requested to sing it whenever I go for shows.
But now people who had not heard Kombdi earlier also know the song and wherever I go they point out, 'She's the one - the original 'Chikni' singer' and that really feels great”.
The iconic Katrina Kaif’s thumkas in ‘Chikni Chameli’ was choreographed by Ganesh Acharya. Share what are your thoughts on both of these songs? Which one do you feel has more appeal? Share with us.
