The first thing I saw this morning broke my heart. I saw Jeetendra getting out of his posh car with a great deal of difficulty and two strong men leading him into his palatial house, “Krishna” in Juh - ALI PETER JOHN

He was limping and his once handsome face and his brisk walk had gone slow and there was a certain hidden pain on his face and his eyes, which is what age does to the best of men and women.

And as his men led him into his palace, Krishna, my mind went back to the various other houses he had lived in during his entire life.

He was born in Ramchandra chawl opposite the Central Cinema in Girgaum where he lived with his father and mother and the family till he became a star.

He then shifted to Usha Apartment in Colaba where he had Prem Chopra as his friend and who took him in his car to all the studios to find work.

He became a bigger star and bought an apartment in Gautam Apartment on Pali Hill, after which he shifted to a cozy home where he had Gulzar and Raakhee as his neighbours. He next built an underground bungalow in Pali Hill in the compound of Gautam Apartment.

His career took a huge turn and he was working more in Hyderabad than in Mumbai and built his own bungalow on Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.

And when he came back to Mumbai after more than 10-years, he was dismayed to find a new bungalow looking like Buckingham Palace in Juhu which was built by his wife Shobha and daughter Ekta, who has also built the Balaji Telefilms company.
