New Update

If there is heaven, if I am fortunate enough to enter the gates of heaven and if I meet God and if he asks me what was that thing on earth that made me fit to live on earth, I will without hesitation- Without batting an eye, I will tell God that I have met some of the most unusual and talented men and women on earth. If God asked me to name a few of them, I would definitely name IS Johar. Will take first! Ali Peter John I know there may be many people, especially the new generation who will think and ask 'Who is IS Johar?' It is my honor and it is my duty to give IS Johar all the credit he deserves and deserves in a big way.

IS Johar Birthday Special (5)

I first met Johar through Johar! When I saw the name I.S.Johar written on the back of a column that he wrote for a leading film magazine, in which he answered readers' queries and in his witty, sarcastic, free, frank and fearless way Answers were given. The column he wrote was one of the highlights of the magazine and became popular among stars and superstars including the common man. The only time I could see reading the magazine was when I went to the barber shop and I became addicted to his column, but I had a feeling I would one day be sitting with IS Johar! I was going from Churchgate station to my office at Nariman Point when I saw a man dressed in a safari suit and posting some letters in the post box on the road. People kept staring at him and trying to get his attention. It took me only a minute to know that the man was IS Johar, and that he lived in a building near the post box called 'Lotus Court'. My curiosity peaked and I introduced myself to him and was beyond my imagination when he asked me if I was the same guy who used to write for the screen. I was already thrilled, but my excitement was doubled when he invited me for a cup of tea at his home and if I didn't accept his invitation then, I would have been a very crazy and stupid person!

He was living alone and I was suddenly shocked when he said, "I have worked with all the unwanted people" (referring here to his family.) Then he discussed his life and career over tea. Share with me many stories of work, in which I got so lost that I forgot to go to my office and forgot all the responsibilities of work! When I told my colleagues about my unexpected meeting with Mr.Johar, they could not believe it and my boss said, “How can you sit with that mad man for two hours and tolerate him? can do?" I told them all that I had found in them one of the wisest and most wonderful men. My editor Mr. S.S.Pillai was an admirer of I.S.Johar and congratulated me on meeting Johar, whom none of the other staff wanted to meet because they said he had humiliated them and his sarcastic comments. Also insulted him with (sarcastic remarks). The article I wrote about Johar was prominently published by Mr. Pillai and this article made me a good friend of Johar, after which I started meeting him many times and my meetings with him are very important. I used to wait impatiently. How can I describe the man who was beyond description. He was a writer, a director, producer of films and plays> He fought crusades for social causes , he was an idol breaker who had no respect for frauds and pseudo-intellectuals of any kind and he was a kind There were comedians the likes of which Indian cinema has never had, and I am sure will never have again. Johar wrote the script for BR Chop ra's directorial debut, Afsana! He directed his own films like 'Nastik' and it was followed by several films, some of which were titled "Jauhar Mehmood in Goa", "Jauhar Mehmood in Hong Kong", "Jauhar in Kashmir", "Jauhar in Bombay". and "My name is Johar". He had the courage to make films like 'Nasbandi' based on the atrocities committed by Mrs. Indira Gandhi's government during the Emergency and had the courage to face the consequences when the film was banned on the day of its release. He made a film titled 'Jai Bangla Desh' which was based on the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh. He made a spoof on the star system by making '5 Rifles' with poor duplicates of Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and even Dev Anand. He directed plays that were against Mrs. Gandhi's regime and even against Pakistani Prime Minister JA Bhutto.

He was a leader of the film industry but he could never tolerate the fake values and fake people who ruled the industry and when he couldn't take it he dumped it and said "This industry belongs to fools, It is for fools and made by fools. Mrs Gandhi, then the I&B minister, was addressing a meeting in Mumbai and Johar was on the stage with her. As soon as he saw her dozing off, he stood up and said, “Yeh log humari baat ko kya samjegi ya sunge, dekho madam to yahan soi hui hai”, he had to face severe punishment for his ‘bad behaviour’ Was. It was Screen's 25th year and the management wanted Johar's message. My senior Mr. Desai called Johar and told him what he wanted, Johar didn't take a second to say it, and said "Bahut hogaya band kardo"

IS Johar Birthday Special (2)

Comedian Johar was always at his best but he will always be remembered for his roles in 'Johnny Mera Naam' in which he played a triple role and he will always be remembered for all his roles in his films. He was no star, but apart from Mehmood, some of the biggest stars were literally scared to share screen space with him. I was preparing to leave my office early to meet him at Lotus Court, but as soon as I entered the building, the security guard told me that Johar had passed away and as per his wish , He was immediately taken to the Sion Electric crematorium and cremated before anyone in the industry knew the news. Many tributes have been paid to the man who hated tributes, but the best and truest tribute was paid to him by Mehmood, who flew to me from Bangalore just to say, “Jauhar mein jo baat thi, woh Kisi aur mein ho hi nahi sakti” Mehmood was echoing the sentiments of many Johar fans, including me.
