If there is heaven, if I get the privilege of entering the gate of heaven, and if I meet God and if He asks me what was the thing on earth that made me worthy of living on earth, then I would without thinking- Without understanding or even blinking, I would tell God that I have met some of the most unusual and talented men and women on earth. If God asked me to name some of them, I would name I.S.Johar. I will take it first! I know there may be many people, especially the new generation, who will think and ask, 'Who is I.S. Johar?' Knowing I.S.Johar even as I know him, I think this It is my honor and my duty to give I.S.Johar all the credit that he richly deserves and deserves. I met Johar for the first time only through Johar! When I saw the name I.S. Johar written on the back of a column he wrote for a leading film magazine, in which he answered readers' questions and, in his witty, sarcastic, free, frank, and fearless way, gave answers.
I.S Johar
The column he wrote was a highlight of that magazine and became popular among the common man as well as stars and superstars. I used to read the magazine only when I went to the barbershop and I was addicted to his columns, but I had a feeling that I would be sitting with I.S.Johar one day! I was going from Churchgate station to Nariman Point for my office when I saw a man wearing a safari suit and posting some letters in the post box on the road. People kept staring at him and trying to get his attention. It only took me a minute to figure out that the man was I.S.Johar, and that he lived in a building near the post box called 'Lotus Court'. My curiosity peaked and I introduced myself to him I was beyond my imagination when he asked me if I was the same guy who used to write for the screen. I was already thrilled, but my excitement doubled when he invited me for a cup of tea at his house and if I had not accepted his invitation then I would have been a very crazy and stupid person!
He was living alone and I got a sudden shock when he said, “I have worked with all the unwanted people” (Here he was referring to his family.) Then during tea, he talked about his life and He shared with me many work stories in which I got so lost that I forgot to go to my office and forgot all my work responsibilities. When I told my colleagues about my unexpected meeting with Mr.Johar, they couldn't believe it and my boss said, “How can you sit with that crazy man for two hours and tolerate that?” can do it?" I told them all that I had found in them a most intelligent and wonderful man. My editor Mr. S.S. Pillai was an admirer of I.S. Johar and he congratulated me on meeting Johar, whom none of the other staff wanted to meet because they said he insulted them and his sarcastic comments. Also insulted him with sarcastic remarks. The article I wrote about Johar was prominently published by Mr. Pillai and this article made me a good friend of Johar, after which I started meeting him many times and my meetings with him I used to wait eagerly for it.
How can I describe a man who was beyond description? He was a writer, director, and producer of films and plays> He fought crusades for social causes, he was an idol breaker who had no respect for any kind of frauds and pseudo-intellectuals and he was a kind of There were such comedians, the kind of which Indian cinema never had or has, and I am sure will never have again. Just for the record, Johar wrote the script of BR Chopra's directorial debut 'Afsana'! He directed films like 'Nastik' which was followed by many films, some of which were titled, “Johar Mahmood in Goa”, “Jauhar Mahmood in Hong Kong”, “Jauhar in Kashmir”, “Jauhar in Bombay ” “My Name is Johar”. He dared to make films like 'Nasbandi' based on the atrocities committed by Smt. Indira Gandhi's government during the Emergency and when the film was banned on the day of its release, he also dared to bear the consequences. He made a film named 'Jai Bangla Desh' which was based on the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh. He made a spoof on the star system by making '5 Rifles' with poor duplicates of Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, and even Dev Anand. He directed plays that were against Mrs. Gandhi's rule and even Pakistani Prime Minister J.A. Bhutto.
He was a leader of the film industry but he could never tolerate the fake values and fake people who ruled the industry and when he could no longer tolerate it he quit it and said “This industry is of fools, it is for fools and is made by fools only.” Mrs. Gandhi, who was then I&B minister, was addressing a meeting in Mumbai and Johar was on the stage with her. As soon as he saw her dozing off, he stood up and said, “How will these people understand or listen to what we say, look madam is sleeping here”, he had to face severe punishment for his ‘bad behavior’. Was. It was the 25th year of the screen and the management wanted Johar's message. My senior Mr. Desai called Johar and told him what he wanted, Johar did not take a second to say it, and said “Bahut hogaya stop kardo” Comedian Johar was always at his best, but he always had to ' He will be remembered for his roles in 'Johnny Mera Naam' in which he played a triple role and he will always be remembered for all his roles in his films. He was no star, but apart from Mehmood, some of the biggest stars were afraid to share screen space with him.
I was preparing to leave my office early to meet him at Lotus Court, but as soon as I went inside the building, the security guard there told me that Johar had died, and as per his wish, He was immediately taken to Sion Electric Crematorium and was cremated before anyone in the industry knew the news. Many tributes have been paid to the man who hated tributes, but the best and truest tribute was paid to him by Mahmood, who flew down from Bangalore just to say to me, “Jauhar mein jo baat tha, woh Kisi aur mein ho hi nahi sakti” Mehmood was echoing the sentiments of many Johar fans, including me.
