The picture is from the 1960 film Love in Shimla. A beautiful film by Sadhna Ji and Joy Mukherjee. Today is Joy Mukherjee's birthday. Joy Mukherjee was born on 24 February 1939 in Jhansi. His father Sashadhar Mukherjee was the founder of Filmalaya Productions. Dadamuni Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar were his maternal uncles. It is also interesting that even though his father Sashadhar Mukherjee had sent Joy Mukherjee to study in different schools and colleges. But he was not very good at studies. What's more, initially he was not even interested in films. He wanted to make a career in sports. Used to do boxing. Used to do wrestling. He also played football a lot.

Joy Mukherjee: From BA to Bollywood Success!

Somehow he passed BA. Then his cousin brother Ram Mukherjee asked him to play a supporting role in his film Hum Hindustani. He also agreed to play that role without any hesitation. Just what then? When his father Sashadhar Mukherjee came to know that Joy was also acting, he asked director RK Nayyar to launch his son in the film industry with great fanfare through the film 'Love in Shimla'. That film was a resounding success. And then he worked in many films. 'Ek Musafir Ek Hasina', 'Phir Wohi Dil Laaya Hoon', 'Ishaara', 'Ziddi, Bahu Beti', 'Love in Tokyo' etc. etc. In the year 1977, he also directed a film named 'Chaila Babu'. Rajesh Khanna was the hero in that film.

Remembering Joy Mukherjee: A Tribute to Bollywood's Icon

Joy Mukherjee got into trouble when he was burdened with huge debt due to spending lavishly on his dream project Love in Bombay. Somehow Joy Mukherjee had freed himself from the burden of debt. But on March 9, 2012, Joy Mukherjee died at the age of 73. His last film Love in Bombay was released in 2013. Joy Mukherjee was Kajol and Tanuja's maternal uncle. Kajol's father Shomu Mukherjee was her elder brother. He was married to Neelam ji. Neelam ji and they have two sons and a daughter. Kissa TV pays tribute to Joy Mukherjee by remembering her.
