Har Dil Aziz Dharmendra

While watching thousands of clippings of 'Mayapuri' file wishing Bollywood's most loved star "Dharam ji" on his birthday on 8th December, we feel that when that loved and dear star has stepped on the 88th step of his age, for him, the articles contain only love and love stories. Hardly any other star in the history of cinema has been blessed with this love and respect in his 63 years of film career.

Dharam Paaji: From Sahnewal to Bollywood Icon

Recently, Dharam Paaji, who had come to participate in a TV show with his two sons Sunny and Bobby, had said on the question of not changing the person inside him - "Sahnewal is still alive inside me." Born in a Jatt Sikh family in 1935 in Sahnewal, a backward village of Ludhiana in Punjab, Dharam Singh Deol's father was a school teacher. The intoxication of films was such that the married man, father of a son, left his job as a pump operator and came to Bombay to work in films, and within no time he became the love of millions of hearts. From his first film made in 1960, Arjun Hingorani's 'Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere' to his last release 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani' (2023), there are unique tales of his romantic personality. This journey spans a length of 300 films.  'Bandini', 'Satyakaam', 'Anupama', 'Aaya Sawan Jhoom Ke', 'Aankhen', 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat', 'Jeevan Mrityu', 'Dream Girl', 'Chupke Chupke', 'Haqeeqat', 'Sholay', 'Apne'... are evergreen films of the cinema industry which will keep him the dream boy of the silver screen for a long time.

Dharam Paaji: From Struggle to Bollywood Legacy

A full-fledged family, in which numbers increased and the form of extended love also emerged. The increase in the work area is in the civilization of Deol’s. The father who gave the launching pad to Sunny ('Betaab') and Bobby ('Barsaat') from his home production film had once come to Mumbai empty-handed and without a place to stay, to participate in the 'Filmfare Contest'... with this thought in mind, today he also smiles - "Father had responsibilities, so he continued the process of making films to provide work to hundreds of workers..." This has been the canvas of Garam Dharam's thinking. In 1997, Filmfare honored him with the Life Time Achievement Award. He has been decorated with 'Padma Shri' by the Government of India. He shows his big heart by doing 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' and 'Apne' with his sons and 'Tell Me O Khuda' under the direction of his wife Hema Malini with daughter Isha.

There comes a time when he had a pull towards politics. BJP makes him MP from Bikaner. However he does not like politics, so he leaves after completing one term. There are still two MPs in the family (Hema Malini and Sunny Deol) but now he is disinterested in diplomatic contacts.

Hema Malini Dharmendra“In ‘Gadar 2’ , Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel still have same excellent screen-chemistry, even after 22 years,” insists dir. Anil Sharma who is backed by Zee Studios -- by Chaitanya Padukone

The year 2023 is one of celebration for the Deol family. Sunny Deol's film 'Gadar 2' has created a stir of success while Bobby Deol's film 'Animal' has brought a lot of praise. Now, Dharmendra's 88th birthday, born on 8 December, is as exciting and full of curiosity as the Deols' dominance in cinema history. Mayapuri family wishes Dharmendra a long life on this hat-trick celebration of enthusiasm: 'Jeevet Sharad Shatam!!'
