Jaya Bachchan Birthday: Bhanurekha Ganesan's Beach Memories

In the early 70s, Juhu was gradually becoming a hub of newcomers, where stalwarts like Devanand, Balraj Sahni, Dharmendra, Dara Singh, Dr. Ramanand Sagar, B.R. Chopra, Mohan Kumar, Rakesh Roshan, and J. Om Prakash. Already owned a house and apartments in separate buildings, all in the suburbs, with the beach being one of the main attractions of those houses!

There must have been something special about the Beach Apartment because this building attracted many film personalities.

It was in the early 70s that a building came up near the Hare Krishna Temple, and it was called Beach Apartments. There must have been something special about these buildings because they attracted many film personalities and the first to buy one of these huge apartments was Inder Raj Anand, a very popular and highest-paid dialogue writer. Lived there with his wife Shams and sons Tinu and Bittu. Gradually new people came in who were pass-outs from FTII and others who bought apartments in this building. And among them was also a South Indian actress who was making herself popular in Hindi films named Rekha who was earlier staying in a popular hotel called 'Ajanta Hotel'. She was taking her first few steps in rising as a star and then shifted to this building and had her flat on the third floor. At the same time, FTII pass-out Jaya Bhaduri came into films, establishing herself with her first Hindi film, 'Guddi'!

Rekha and Jaya gradually became best friends and used to exchange notes about their careers. They had a common friend called Asrani. They used to go shooting together. Their friendship remained strong and this friendship between Rekha and Jaya was a topic of gossip among the industry and media!

Jaya had a best friend, a struggling man named Amitabh Bachchan and she used to visit him and he would take her to different shoots where she was a star. Amitabh was yet to make a mark for himself and sought support from his close friends living in the beach apartment. He did not meet Rekha in those days and Jaya and Amitabh's friendship turned into a love story, eventually both of them worked together in more than five films which unfortunately did not help in furthering Amitabh's career but Amitabh's failure did not affect their mutual relationship!

After the marriage between Amitabh and Jaya, Jaya naturally shifted from the beach apartment to Amitabh's bungalow.

Destiny then played a strange game and Amitabh, after giving his 11 flops, found stardom with the film 'Zanjeer', for which Jaya recommended and supported him. Who was also the heroine of this film and 'Zanjeer' changed the story of the struggling actor named Amitabh Bachchan. After Amitabh and Jaya got married, and then Jaya naturally shifted from the beach apartment to Amitabh's bungalow and Rekha was so successful that she bought her seafront bungalow in Bandra. Their time came when Jaya and Amitabh were doing three or four films together, and at the same time, Amitabh had formed a very popular and successful team with Rekha. Jaya had stayed away from films after her marriage and meanwhile, Amitabh and Rekha came closer, this created a rift in the friendship between the two apartment friends, and the relationship between Amitabh and Rekha became famous in every nook and corner of the country and even abroad. Had become the hottest topic of discussion!

They might be wondering how their beloved neighbors moved away and conquered the world on their way

It was like a war between two best friends from the beach apartment and even today, more than thirty-five years later, this war continues. Some experts claim that Amitabh and Rekha are still very much in love with each other while Jaya is a Member of Parliament who is busy fighting in Parliament and making headlines with her aggressive nature.
