There must have been something special about the Beach Apartments as the building attracted many film celebrities

It was in the early 70s that a building came up near the Hare Krishna temple, and it was called the Beach Apartments. There must have been something special about this building as it attracted many film personalities, and the first to buy one of these spacious apartments was a very popular and highest paid dialogue writer, Inder Raj Anand, who lived there with his wife Shams and sons Tinnu and Bittu. Gradually, there were newcomers who were FTII pass outs and others who bought apartments in this building. Among them was a South Indian actress who was making herself popular in Hindi films named Rekha who was earlier staying in a popular hotel called the 'Ajanta Hotel'. She was taking her first few steps into her rise as a star and then shifted to this building and had a flat of her own on the third floor. At the same time, Jaya Bhaduri, also an FTII pass out, came into films, establishing herself with her first Hindi film, 'Guddi' ! Rekha and Jaya gradually became best friends and used to exchange notes about their careers. They had a common friend called Asrani. They used to go to shootings together. Their friendship remained strong and this friendship between Rekha and Jaya was a topic of gossip in the industry and the media!

Jaya had a best friend named Amitabh Bachchan, who was a struggling man, and she used to visit him.. She would take him to different shoots where she was a star. Amitabh was yet to make a mark, and he sought support from his close friends who lived in the beach apartment. He did not meet Rekha in those days, and Jaya and Amitabh's friendship turned into a love story, and eventually, the two worked together in more than five films, which unfortunately did not work in furthering Amitabh's career, but Amitabh's failure did not affect their relationship!
