R Madhavan's full name is Madhavan Balaji Ranganathan. He has graduated in Electronics. He has represented India in Canada as a cultural ambassador. Being a professional public speaker, Madhavan represented India at the Young Businessmen Conference in Tokyo, Japan in 1992.

Madhavan always wanted to join the army, but he gave up this desire due to his parents' insistence. After completing his electronics degree, he taught tech communication and public speaking in workshops organized across the country. 

Not only this, he was awarded the Best NCC Cadet of Maharashtra and got a chance to go to England for this. He was even trained with the Royal Army, Navy, and Air Force. R Madhavan is a great golf player. He participated in a celebrity charity event in 2007. During this, he played golf with Amitabh Bachchan and director-producer Mani Ratnam. R Madhavan was first offered the role of Jimmy Shergill in Shahrukh Khan's film My Name is Khan. But Madhavan left the film when the dates of this film clashed with Three Idiots.
