Remembering J. Jayalalithaa: She Drew Just ₹1 Salary as Tamil Nadu CM

Today marks the 75th birth anniversary of former actor and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalithaa. Jayalalithaa was popularly known as "Amma" and was a leader of the masses. When she passed away on December 5, 2016, the entire country was plunged into mourning. Everyone in Tamil Nadu was teary-eyed that day.

She served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu six times over a period of 14 years. During her tenure as Chief Minister, she took a salary of just one rupee. She refused to accept a salary as Chief Minister. During her film career, Jayalalithaa appeared in 85 Tamil films and one Hindi film, "Izzat," starring actor Dharmendra, which was a hit.

In 1995, during her first term as Chief Minister, she hosted a grand wedding for her adopted son. According to Guinness World Records, over 150,000 guests were invited to the wedding on a 50-acre grounds in Chennai.

Kangana Ranaut's film "Thalaivi" was recently released, in which she plays Jayalalithaa. The film was released on September 10, 2021. Kangana released the film's teaser on the 104th birth anniversary of the late actor and AIADMK founder M.G.
