This incident happened when Rajinikanth was shooting for Pankaj Parashar’s film Chaalbaaz starring Rajinikanth, Sridevi, Anupam Kher, and Rohini Hattangadi among others. Chaalbaaz: Sridevi's Dual Role Saga In the film Chaalbaaz, born as twin sisters, Anju (Sridevi) and Manju (Sridevi) are separated immediately after birth thanks to their mentally handicapped nanny (Aruna Irani). Anju ends up with her uncle Tribhuvan (Anupam Kher) and aunt Amba (Rohini Hattangadi), while Manju is raised in a slum environment. Their parents are killed in a car accident orchestrated by Tribhuvan. However, in their will, they declare that their daughters will inherit their wealth once the twins turn 21. This results in Tribhuvan and Amba bringing Anju up as a coy and easily frightened girl, merely keeping her alive so she can sign off the property in their names. The house servant Daddu (Annu Kapoor), Anju's younger brother Raja (Aftab Shivdasani), and a pet dog sympathize with her plight. It so happened that one day when the shooting was in full swing, the weather was as always very hot in Chennai, and in those days there was no vanity van, and all the actors after giving their shots used to occupy their chairs on the sets. Rohini Hattangadi, fresh from the laurels of having acted as Kasturba in Gandhi, was sweating like a pig (in her own words) but did not notice that Rajinikanth who was sitting beside her had observed it. Rajinikanth had a small Portable fan perching on his shoulder when he was reading the lines for the next shot on the sets and was quite comfortable with the breeze provided by the Portable fan. After the pack-up for the day was announced, Rajinikanth’s Man Friday strode into the makeup room in the studios of Rohini Hattangadi and delivered a small packet to her telling her that his boss Rajinikanth Sir had asked him to hand it over to her. A perplexed Rohini Hattangadi was flabbergasted because she had met him only when she had come to Madras for the shooting of Chaalbaaz when the director Pankaj Parashar had introduced him to her. Rohini Hattangadi thanked him and opened the packet only to discover to her pleasant surprise that it contained a brand new Portable fan, specially bought by Rajinikanth from Moor Market in Chennai where all imported Portable fans were being sold then and sent to her with his best compliments as a special gift from him. Rohini was overwhelmed by the sweet gesture of her co-star Rajinikanth and made it a point on her part while leading the sets that day to go up to him and convey to him her thanks and even offered to pay him what the fan would have cost him to buy but Rajinikanth refused to accept any payment from her Read also: Love to take breaks to spend time with myself: Namita Lal Ansh Bagri: Embracing Struggles for Growth Vaquar Shaikh on Manoj Bajpayee & Prachi Desai: A Delight Tamannaah Bhatia's 'Paiyaa' Re-releases After 14 Years Amazon miniTV Adds New International Shows This April #Rajinikanth #Rohini Hattangadi Related Articles Advertisment Latest Stories Read the Next Article
