BOLLYWOOD'S WEIRD TREND OF SUCCESS PARTIES FOR FLOP FILMS

The definition of success parties in Bollywood seems to have undergone a sea change. The last time anyone checked, you popped-open the champagne only after their film legitimately performed well at the box office. But clearly that's not the trend anymore because nowadays, success or no success, filmmakers will throw a bash regardless; and sometimes just a day after the release. Is it just an unabashed love for parties or a simple PR stunt?

The latest film to join this bandwagon is Salman Khan's Tubelight. Sohail and Salman threw a lavish bash on Saturday, just one day after the release, while the film went on to become a weekend dud at the box office. As per a tweet by celebrated film critic, Taran Adarsh, Tubelight garnered approximately Rs 42 crore over a period of two days (Friday and Saturday). As compared to other Salman Khan films, this one appears to be doing pretty bad. But that didn't stop the Khan brothers from celebrating its success. We guess the definition of success is different for everyone.

However, this isn't the only film crew to celebrate their venture's success before it is even successful. Here's a whole list of movies that had success parties despite tanking at the box office.

Half Girlfriend

A mere two days after the film's release, the Half Girlfriend team was seen celebrating its success despite it not performing as well as expected. In fact, the rival film released that week, Hindi Medium, performed exceptionally well. Guess Ekta Kapoor didn't want to let Chetan Bhagat's morale down.

MSG and The Messenger 2

The makers of the film claimed that it was a super-hit and continuously went houseful, and grossed over Rs 190 crore worldwide. The reality, according to sting operation performed by spotboye.com, was quite different and the theatres were in fact empty. This however did not stop Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insaan from spending almost as much as his claims on his success party.

Salman Khan's second home production (SKF), after Bajrangi Bhaijaan, didn't set the cash registers moving. However, the Tubelight star threw a lavish success bash for his finds—Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty. Moral obligation or just another reason to party?

Alone

The cast and the crew watched this film alone, but Bipasha and Karan still had a reason to celebrate (for reasons other than the film of course *wink wink*). Indian horror films, in fact, haven't been known to perform well at the box office. So by those standards, this was probably a winner! Who are we to say.

Humshakals

C'mon, this film had to make the list. The budget for the success party was greater than the total money it made, but it wasn't attended by even half of the cast. We'd say poor Sajid, but then he made the choice of making this film.

The list of such bashes is endless, but we won't be Bollywood buffs if we didn't know that everything in tinsel town is celebrated lavishly; whether it is breakups, birthdays, or flop films.
