Actor, national award winning producer and Habitat for Humanity India Rupee for Change Brand Ambassador John Abraham felicitated students, and teachers of the schools that had partnered with NGO Habitat for Humanity India for its ‘Rupee for Change’ campaign.The Rupee for Change is an annual campaign of Habitat for Humanity engaging schools across the country in advocacy, volunteering and awareness raising activities to support Habitat’s work of building homes and sanitation units for the families in need of decent shelter. In addition to campaigning for Habitat for Humanity India, these young students also raise funds and contribute to the NGO. The top schools in academic year 2017-18 for the ‘Rupee for Change’ campaign have been selected from the four regions of the country – west, north and south – namely The Cathedral & John Connon School, Mumbai, St. John Universal School, Goregaon, Mumbai, The Millennium School, HMEL Bathinda, Sadhu Vaswani International School, Hyderabad, and Gowtham Model Schools, Hyderabad.

In a special ‘Meet and Greet’ event held on 19th January 2019 at Novotel, Juhu in Mumbai, John Abraham interacted with the school students, Principals, teachers and honour them for their contribution.John Abraham has been associated with Habitat for Humanity India since 2006 and launched the Rupee for Change campaign in 2013-14 wherein the youth serve as change agents supporting the cause of Swachh Bharat and Housing for All – the national movements that Habitat India is aligned with. The Rupee for Change campaign motivates students to voluntarily contribute INR 1 per day towards building homes and sanitation facilities for the underprivileged people. Many of these students also offer sweat equity by way of volunteering and taking part in building homes thus transforming lives of many families and gaining a new perspective towards the world.

I would like to congratulate the students who have participated in the ‘Rupee for Change’ campaign and contributed to the cause. The funds will definitely give hope to the people who don’t have home of their own. ‘Rupee for Change’ is a special campaign to me and I am proud to be associated with this campaign. I would like to urge the students to continue participating in this initiative,” says John Abraham, Habitat for Humanity India’s Brand Ambassador.“Rupee for Change campaign introduces the reality of homelessness to the students and motivates them to contribute to the cause of the people who don’t have roof over their head. The response from the schools across the country to the campaign in the academic year 2017-18 has been quite encouraging. The students are the real champions in this campaign. We are grateful to the principals, school management and the parent community for their support,” says Rajan Samuel, managing director of HFH India.
