According to the reports, the extensive post-production works is the reason behind the delay of release. It is being said that the film is heavy on VFX and the major portions of the VFX of the film is yet to be completed. In fact, the makers too are not in a hurry to wrap up the film by compromising on quality.
The making video of 2.0 was released last years, which shows the various stages of filming including scenes with the movie's principal antagonist Akshay Kumar.

The film is a sequel to the 2010 film Robot, is billed as the most expensive project ever made in Indian film history. The makers have spent a whopping amount of Rs 400 crore on this mega project, as the film is being made using the latest technology and 3D cameras. The science-fiction is bankrolled by Lyca Productions and directed by Shankar. This is the first time Akshay and Rajnikanth will be seen together and is also marked as Akshay Kumar's Tollywood debut. The film also features Amy Jackson as leading lady of the film.
