Female characters on TV have evolved considerably. Stories have become realistic, so are the parts. Media personality turned actor Charrul Malik talks about this change.
“Anupama in Anupama and Anita Bhabhi in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai are very progressive. There are a few other shows that are shown in a progressive light. Anupama is very close to reality unlike Nagin, which is fictitious. That is why Anupama is really close to my heart. It’s about a women’s journey and about women empowerment. It has caught people’s attention. A good story is a must, plus it has amazing actors,” she says.
Infinite shows such as Anupama, Bhabhi Ji.. have created history and set role models like that of Shanti, Swabhimaan, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kkusum Heena.
Charrul shares that people get influenced by such narratives because the viewers of rural characters take TV characters to be real. “Whatever you see every day, you absorb it and it does influence our minds. There is no denying about that,” she ends.
