Time was when the stars and superstars made all out efforts to keep their children, especially their little ones away from the glare of the limelight, especially from the limited number of the media. It was only the Jubilee Star Rajendra Kumar who was recognised as a better businessman than an actor who saw the potential in his handsome son Gaurav, known as Bunty at home and decided to launch him as a hero and did when he made "Love Story" with Kumar Gaurav as he named his son and a new actress called Vijayta Pandit and big time supporting actors like Amjad Khan and Danny Denzonpa and with music by R. D Burman, David Dhavan was supposed to be the director who actually made the film, but his name was dropped from the credits by Rajendra Kumar because of some major differences the two men had during the making of the film."Love Story" became a super hit, Kumar Gaurav became a superstar and the success of the two led other big stars like Sunil Dutt and Nargis to launch their son, Sanjay Dutt and Dharmendra to launch his son, Sunny Deol and the tradition set in the 80s continues, with Karan Singh Deol, the son of Sunny Deol recently making his debut as a hero in "Pal Pal Dil Ke Pas", produced and directed by his father...

The tradition has left such a strong impact that filmmakers keep peeping into the houses of stars to see if they can find stars for the future in their homes and there is no saying when which child of which star will strike it big and make it as a star for the future. Never before have there been so many star kids who have aroused the curiosity of the media, filmmakers the industry and even the masses.

The one child who seems to be the star already is Taimur Ali Khan, the son of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan and the grandson of the late Nawab of Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore.

He is just 3 years old, but he is already what they call "the darling of the media". Ever little step and move he makes is followed very closely by the media. The kind of clothes he wears, the colours of the clothes he wears, the shoes he wears, the smile on his face, his moods and the way he faces the paparazzi with all the confidence is what not even an established star would draw attention to. His recent third birthday party found more attention in the media than the parties thrown by any of the big stars and every channel, newspaper and social media was splashed with trivia and photographs of the grand event. Like one of the senior photographers who was present at the celebrations said, "I have covered the parties of all the big stars and all the big politicians and every big celebrity, but this party to celebrate Taimur Sahab's birthday beats all of them hollow". 2019 easily was the year of Taimur Ali Khan.

The other three kids in the limelight were the children of Shah Rukh Khan. His daughter, Suhana Khan is almost on the threshold of making her debut as an actress and seemed to be making the best of her last years of a girl with all her zest for life, for who knows, this may be the last few months when she can revel in her years as a girl, because soon she may have to travel around in a car with bullet proof glasses and with bouncers running all around her. Aryan who looks almost as good as his father and who some say looks more handsome than his father has still not shown any inclination towards the arc lights, but it has to be seen how long he can resist the magic of the arc lights . And if there is one son of the Khan who has been winning hearts of 40 years, it is clearly his youngest son AbRam who is almost always by his side and is slowly even getting used to the adulation and the applause of the masses. The way things are in 2020 is going to be a very interesting year for the father in King Khan.

Amitabh Bachchan may have achieved what very few fathers and grandfathers must have, but enough is not going to be enough for him or so it seems. He keeps praising his granddaughters, Navya Naveli, the daughter of his daughter, Shweta and Aaradhya, the daughter of Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He has also hinted at their being three more artists in the Bachchan family. Who else could he be referring to than his three granddaughters?

If one goes just by looks, then the sons of Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne (they have unfortunately separated), Hredhaan and Hrehaan have all the chances of staking their claim to stardom if not so soon, then certainly in the very near future.

Again, if looks are the only qualities that are going to matter in the years to come, then the sons of Madhuri Dixit, Ryan and Arrin will also stand a very good chance to stand out in any kind of race for a place anywhere near the top and if they can be considered as good competition, how can Arrav, the son of Akshay Kumar and Twinkle not be in the race?

The race grows more and more interesting as I think about Nysa and Yug, the daughter and son of Ajay Devgn and Kajol. Then there is Adira, the daughter of Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukherjee and if the changing customs and traditions are taken seriously, then who knows, even the adopted (or is it surrogate?) children of Karan Johar, Ekta Kapoor and Tusshar Kapoor be considered as competitors and finally why not the sons of Sanjay Dutt and Manyata, Shahraan and Iqra?

If you look at all the names above very closely, you will find that they are all very English or very "phoren" names which may or may not be accepted as good enough names for the stars of the future and that would give very good scope for Pandits and astrologers and name experts of the future to suggest interesting Indian names for the new stars of New India.

On that flight from Panjim to Bombay..

Amitabh Bachchan was still recovering from that nasty accident on the sets of Coolie in Bangalore, but he had started shooting with a vengeance as if where he make up for the time he had lost.

He had started shooting for big films like "Sharabi" and "Pukaar". He had almost completed Sharabi and was then shooting for more than a month on different location in Goa for his good friend, Ramesh Behl's "Pukaar" which had other stars like Randhir Kapoor, Zeenat Aman and Tina Munim and huge crowds greeted him wherever he went, it was something the Goan people had not done for any other Hindi film star, people who had never seen Hindi film in all their lives knew who Amitabh was after the accident and they talked in Konkani and in Portuguese about how they had all prayed for Amitabh to get well soon in all the churches and temples of Goa.

The entire unit lived in the then newly opened Cida De Goa, a Five Star hotel and they included Amitabh and all the other stars and the handful of media from Bombay of which I was one.

Amitabh and Randhir were needed to stay on in  Goa for more than a month and they made it a point to invite their wives Babita and Jaya and their children for the weekend to Goa. It was always a very private visit when only the families met over dinner and for walks on the beach at night.

We were on the same flight from Panjim to Bombay, only Babita and Jaya and the kids, Abhishek, Shweta, Karishma and Kareena. They all looked very sweet and charming, especially the two daughters of Babita who were called Lolo and Bebo (Lolo for Karishma and Bebo for Kareena).

Like all other children their age, they were full of mischief and it was very difficult for their mothers and their nannies (caretakers) to control them. But they were the cynosure of the entire flight and Jaya called them "These little devils who I am not going to take anywhere the next time".
