The narrative revolves around Barkha (Babita), a wealthy woman from Bombay, and Gangaram (Manoj Kumar), a simple man from Vishnupur. Their paths cross when Gangaram arrives in the city for an arranged marriage. However, his lack of education and unemployment become dealbreakers. Meanwhile, a chance encounter sparks a connection between him and Barkha. Their bond deepens when Gangaram reveals that a former firefighter, who also happens to be his sister, once saved Barkha's life.

However, love stories rarely bloom without thorns. Barkha's family vehemently opposes her desire to marry Gangaram, citing his social standing. To add fuel to the fire, Barkha's brother spreads a lie about Gangaram's sister being a bar dancer. Faced with this misunderstanding, Barkha confronts Gangaram, demanding him to choose between her and his sister, Champa.
