Comic Con India Gears Up For A Spectacular Pop Culture Celebration In Mumbai

Comic Con India, India’s greatest pop culture experience, is back with the 9^th edition of Mumbai Comic Con on December 7^th and 8^th, 2019 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NESCO, Goregaon. Sponsored by Maruti Suzuki Arena, the two-day long annual extravaganza will feature a staggering line up of Indian and International guests, events, workshops, gaming tournaments, experiential zones and, of course, the brand-new cosplay contest formats!

Tickets for 9^th Maruti Suzuki Mumbai Comic Con 2019 are available on the Mumbai Comic Con Website (https://comicconindia.com/mumbai/) as well as on-ground at the venue. The Single Day Pass is priced at INR 599 and the SuperFan two-day VIP Pass at INR 1999. The SuperFan pass enables VIP entry on both days and is loaded with several perks such as a Thanos Funko-Pop, Marvel Tee, Bag & Badge, a poster and a limited-edition comic book.

This year, some of the popular international artists are making their way to Comic Con include Larry Hama, writer and editor of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, and former SNL and M*A*S*H actor; Allison Sampson, UK-based comic book artist who has worked for large publishers such as DC/ Vertigo, Dark Horse, IDW, and Boom; and Sachi Ediriweera, creator of graphic novel 'Lionborn'.

Joining them at the show will be the leading Indian comic book publishers, illustrators and writers like Abhijeet Kini, Alicia Souza, Rakesh Khanna, Rashmi Ruth Devadasan, Vivek Goel, Saumin Patel – and creators of popular Indian webcomics like Sailesh Gopalan (Brown PaperBag), Bhagya Babu (Awkwerrrd) and Sumit Kumar (Bakaramax). In 2019, the format of the Arena main stage will get bigger and better with exclusive live performances by popular stand-up, music and dance acts like Rahul Subramaniam, Choreo Culture, Jizzy + TS, mentalist Karan Singh and Geek Fruit entertainment.

Cosplay remains a very popular aspect of Comic Con India, and this year keeping in mind the growing, vibrant Cosplay community, Comic Con India has introduced a new Cosplay contest format. The contest which will give out prizes worth INR 2 Lacs each day of the show, will have two categories.

The first category, Indian Championships of Cosplay 2019 Mumbai Qualifier, will see participants apply to complete online, pre-selected participants will go through a stage display session and compete on 3 parameters – needlework, FX and armor. Each day, the winners of the Mumbai qualifier will not only win awards but also qualify to participate in the Indian Championship of Cosplay 2019, followed by a chance to represent India at the Crown World Championship of Cosplay in Chicago.

The second contest format, namely the Mumbai Cosplay Championship 2019 is a celebration of all pop culture. Participants can register on-ground at the venue each day, and then compete on the Arena stage to eventually win the grand Prize for the contest.

Some of the leading exhibitors and brands from the show’s 1200+ strong network will also be coming to the show to create one of the coolest and quirkiest shopping experiences in the country. The Mumbai Comic Con will offer fans a chance to enjoy real-world exhibits of their favorite comics, TV shows, games, anime & movies, along with the best from the houses of Comedy Central, Warner Bros, AMD, WWE, Sony Networks & more.

The Mumbai event will be followed by the New Delhi edition, which will be held at NSIC Grounds, Okhla on 20-22 December 2019. Finally, Ahmedabad will be hosting its first edition of Comic Con at the Gujarat University Convention and Exhibition Centre on February 1^st and 2^nd 2020.

The entire line up of Fan Experience Zones is Maruti Suzuki Arena, Warner Bros, WWE, Hamleys, Comedy Central, Doritos and Games The Shop while the key exhibitors will be DC Comics & Kodansha by Penguin Random House, Marvel Comics by Hachette, Viz Media by Simon & Schuster, Planet Superheroes, Funko by Wizplex, Amar Chitra Katha, The Souled Store, Superhero Toy Store, Epic Stuff, Nerd Arena, Redwolf and Crossword Bookstores.
