Composer Daboo Malik fulfils his ( 20years ) dream to ‘sing’ duet with melody-queen Alka Yagnik

Rarely has one seen eminent gifted senior composer (also former actor) so super-excited . That’s because his over-20-years secret nagging dream has finally now been realized. That of composing and also ‘singing-a-duet’ with the legendary playback-singer melody-queen Alka Yagnik ( also prime-time TV reality musical-show judge) - Chaitanya Padukone

The soulful romantic ballad-duet which goes ‘Dil Sambhalta Nahin’ (just released on-line and already trending ) has inspiring lyrics written by eminent veteran film-director Ravindra Peepat and is composed by Daboo Malik for his popular MWM music label.

Confides the talented composer Daboo, “ Thanks to revered Salim-saab ( Salman Khan’s father) who made me realize my potential caliber as a good composer, I deviated from acting-on-screen into composing for movies.

In fact, Salim-saab’s hugely-talented sons Salman-bhai Khan, Sohail-bhai and Arbaaz–bhai were all very supportive. Way back in the new millennium, I began composing for landmark musical movies like ‘ Maine Dil Tujhko Diya’ (2002) starring Sohail Khan opposite Sameera Reddy.

In this movie, my composed evergreen song ‘Thoda Sa Pyaar Hua Hai’ sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik was a sensation and had crossed over 70 million views on youtubes. Thereafter I also co-composed for various other movies including the Salman Khan-starrer like ‘Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge’ (2002).

But my nagging secret dream-wish was always to sing as playback for Shah Rukh Khan and sing a duet with Alka Yagnik. But my aspiration to sing as a ‘playback’ somehow did not materialize, even in movies in that bygone era, where I was the co-composer.”

Continues Malik, “Finally now in July 2022, there was divine intervention and I recorded this fabulous soothing romantic duet with Alka-jee, ” discloses composer Daboo whose latest duet-song video has daringly different visuals.

Enthuses the enthusiastic composer, “ Rather than resort to the conventional format of hiring models to lip-sync to the song my creative team-mate Dikshish and I decided differently.

Our song ‘Dil Sambhalta Nahin’ has vibrant black ’n’ white visuals in the form of different motion-images of mine and of Alka-jee within ‘portrait-frames’ in a flowing-floating-in-the-air-mode like sound-waves.

This innovative harmonious deviation has made our video stand out. Also it evokes a nostalgia retro-vibes to match the retro-mood-sound-scape of the song which has the ‘90s flavor..

Everyone including Alka-jee was highly appreciative of the dynamic visuals take of our song ‘Dil Sambhalta Nahin’, ” smiles Daboo who has ‘acted’ in a striking cameo role in the musical hit ‘Baazigar’ (1993) starring Shah Rukh Khan.

Meanwhile Daboo proposes to collab in the near future, with his talented composer-singer celeb-sons Amaal Mallik and Armaan Malik to “recreate of one the evergreen songs composed by my father the illustrious Sardar Malik-saab”.

As a parting shot, Daboo confides, “ If all goes well, Armaan may even record a playback voice song for Shah Rukh-bhai.”
