CONTROVERSIAL TV SHOW 'PEHREDAAR PIYA KI' FINALLY GOES OFF AIR

Sony TV's daily soap Pehredaar Piya Ki has been making news from the word go! Ever since the promos came out, the show has been garnering negative publicity owing to its unusual plot. Many fumed over its storyline of a nine-year-old boy getting married to an 18-year-old girl and the makers were slammed for its regressive and cringeworthy content. After weeks of dealing with controversy and petitions, Pehredaar Piya Ki has been asked to go off air by I&B Minister Smriti Irani.

The news has been confirmed by the team of Sony Entertainment Television. The makers, however, have promised that the show will come back with a new season soon. It is for the first time in the Indian television history, a show has been asked to go off-air by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

According to the reports of Indian Express, the channel stated that "we are pulling off our program, Pehredaar Piya Ki, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, namely, its crew and cast, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows. We are grateful to all the artists, producers and fans of our shows and request you to graciously support the viewership of our newer ventures.”

The makers of the show Shashi and Sumeet Mittal vehemently defended their show in an interview given to India Today saying it's progressive and they are proud of their show.

Pehredaar Piya Ki starred Tejasswi Prakash, Afaan Khan and Suyyash Rai in lead roles.
